Notes: Hal was at Warner Robins for the second NHRA Division 2 race in the first week of April. His 6.87/203.16 qualified #7. In the opening round, his 6.98/183.29 was defeated by eventual winner Don Woosley's 6.50/199. In May, he was at Central Michigan Dragway for the second NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #6 at 6.77/191.48, but the car broke in the first round against Al DaPozzo. Shortly after that, he was at Beech Bend for the NHRA Sportsnationals. Unfortunately, he ended up as the fifth alternate with a 6.90/200.98 best. Hal was the twelfth alternate at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals with a 6.87/203.34. | This is the first chassis I've built from scratch. It was first raced in 1975 and was run for 12 years. It won two UDRA (United Drag Racers Association) National Championships in 1981 and 1982. The biggest race it ever won was in 1976 at the IHRA Summernationals at Union Grove, Wisconsin. It also won the Snowbird Nationals at Bradenton, Florida, in 1975 and 1977, the Turkey Trots in Orlando, Florida, in 1981, and the Citrus Nationals in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1983. This car won over $120,000 in 12 years, $500 and $1000 at a time. It never missed a UDRA race and won many over the years. - Hal Canode |
