Notes: Listed times from The Drag Racing List, Winter 87/88, Volume 2, Number 9. Ran 6.352/219.51 at NHRA Indianapolis, IN 9/87. Greg was at Darlington in March for the IHRA Winternationals. He qualified #3 with a 6.36/214. In the opening round, he ran 6.39/213 to advance, and in the second round, he improved to 6.34/215. He won his semifinal race with a 6.37/214 and faced Bob Newberry in the final. Moss fell off to a 6.51/213 and lost to Newberry's strong 6.31/221. At Rockingham, for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, he lost to Bogie Kell in the opening round of eliminations. He set Low ET at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals, but he lost to Chuck Phelps in round two. In July, he went to Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals. Greg was running well, defeating Don Defluiter in the second round with a 6.46/214.79. However, an even better 6.44 in the semifinals lost to Newberry's 6.39. At Indy, for the NHRA US Nationals, his 6.35/219.61 qualified #8. He ran 6.48/217.91 in the opening round to beat Shad Wheeler's 6.52/191. A second-round 6.38/218.71 beat Frank Manzo, but his 6.39/222.27 fell to John Powell's 6.44/218 in the semifinal. He got some consolation by winning the IHRA US Open held at Rockingham a week later. He qualified #2 for the eight-car field. Charlie Byers fouled against him in round one, and his 6.58/208.81 advanced. In the semifinals, Herb Rogers smoked the tires, and Greg ran 6.61 to advance. He faced low qualifier, Defluiter, and Don broke in the final, so Greg ran an easy 6.61 for the victory. His next stop was at Bristol for the IHRA Fallnationals held at the end of September. It was a sixteen-car show, and in round two, his 6.42/213.77 beat Ron Scott's 6.88/157. A consistent 6.41/213.27 beat Mark Thomas in the semifinal, and he went up against the "Boston Strangler" driven by Arnie Karp in the final. Greg slowed down in the final, and Arnie ran a hard-to-beat 6.34 for the win. |
