Notes: Ron started the '71 season at Irwindale's New Year's Funny Car Festival. It was a sixteen-car show and he qualified #2 with a 7.06/205.94 in the "Fighting Irish." A 7.27/202.70 beat Jim Liberman's quicker 7.23/202 in the first round, but in the second round, the Camaro lost an engine in the lights and lost to Stan Shiroma. He competed at the first OCIR All-Pro event. Ron ran 7.09/205.01 in the first round, to beat Tom McEwen, but an off-pace 7.66/204.08 in the semifinal lost to Gene Snow's 6.96/201. Shortly after this, Dick Rosberg replaced him behind the wheel. |
