Notes: Crashed in a near-fatal accident at Norwalk, Ohio, in May 1982. Someone had forgotten to remove three cinder blocks left in front of the timing lights in the center of the strip near the end. Junior hit them with his rear slick, going over 200 mph. The car flipped end over end at least ten times, completely destroying the fiberglass body. Thanks to the well-built chassis, Junior miraculously sustained no broken bones. Although his helmet roll cage saved his life, the crash caused his head to be severely beaten against it, causing a severe concussion and brain contusion. It took Junior five years to recover and ended his driving career. Junior returned to the nostalgia gasser wars in 1987 with son Tommy at the wheel. |
