Notes: This restyled-for-'68 Skylark replaced the previous '66 iteration. It remained early hemi-powered. Pellegrini later recounted that the Romeo Palamides-built chassis was not a successful idea. The upper and lower rails were intentionally not welded together to allow for more chassis flex. The flex made it difficult to steer, and Pellegrini ended up barrel-rolling it at 175 mph at Rockford (now Byron) Dragway shortly after its debut. According to Pellegrini, he decided at that point he was a car owner, but no longer a driver. - RT |
