Notes: This is the Snake's Buttera 'Cuda, built in late '72. Ran in black gel coat for a few races, including the Last Drag Race at Lions (where he was runner-up to Tom McEwen) and the NHRA Supernationals in Ontario. Don qualified #4 at the Lions last drag race with a 6.51. He beat Dale Pulde in M/T's broken Grand Am in round one with another 6.51. In round two, Don went 6.66 to beat Dave Condit's 6.73 in the LA Hooker. In round three, Don ran a consistent 6.67 to defeat Omer Carruthers 6.74. The Tentmaker, the Low ET loser of the second round, replaced Billy Meyer, who was late getting to the line. In the final, McEwen's great 6.39 beat Don's 6.97 in another Snake vs. Mongoose showdown. | The car was eventually painted yellow with Carefree Gum as the primary sponsor. He won Funny Car Eliminator at Indy in '73, running a 6.27 best. In '74, he painted it in US Army colors and won Indy again. - TN |
