Notes: "Starlite II" was often referred to as the P.V.T.A. (Pomona Valley Timing Association) car, per Don Montgomery's book "Dragsters and Funny Car Memories. Griffith was an officer in the PVTA and manager of racing at the LA Fairgrounds at Pomona. Starlite II was a new car for 1963, with a 120" wheelbase compared to the original Starlite's 96". Griffith, the car's engine builder, assumed the team's driving chores after original driver Chuck Barnham's death following a racing accident in Starlite I the previous January. -- RT |
