Notes: Won Division 2 in 1972. Ran a 6.16 at Lions in 2/72 and was the quickest in the sport at the time, beating Don Garlits' 6.21. Of course, the Top Fuel cars hit the fives by the end of the year. Number one qualifier at Indy at 6.138/229.00. This was Jack McKay's new rear-engine car, not Clayton's Moon Burst front-engine dragster. Also ran 6.13 in the first round of the 1972 Supernationals. Clayton ran 6.11 and 6.25 at Suffolk 4/72 and 6.15 at Lions 7/72. Low qualifier at Lions Grand Premiere at 6.15 and Summernationals at 6.20. The 6.25 was a National Record but was retired on 5/01/72 due to a rule change. Ran 6.130 at Ontario Supernationals 72, 6.62 at Pomona, 6.21 at Gainesville, 6.55 at Columbus, 6.20 at Englishtown, 6.13 at Indy, 6.13 at Ontario. Won Phenix City WCS race 6.58/209.30. Harris was runner-up at the NHRA Amarillo World Finals with a 6.215. |
