Notes: Chris started the season at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals. His 7.86 qualified #19. In the opening round, a 7.77 advanced over Don Johnson, but he lost to eventual winner Connie Kalitta in round two. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, his 7.310/214.78 qualified #4. Unfortunately, he fouled against John Mulligan in the first round. He slowed to a 7.652/207.84 on the run. That was Chris's last NHRA national event of the year. Karamesines bypassed the Bakersfield March Meet, going to Deland for the NASCAR Winter Championships instead. While he didn't make the final, he set the meet's Top Speed at 208.54. On April 2, he beat Emery Cook three straight at Hollywood. His best time came in the second race, where a 7.41/200.44 beat Cook's 8.18 in Don Garlits car. He wrapped up the match with a 7.53/200.88 in the final race, where Cook fouled. The "Greek" found himself at Tampa on April 9 for a match race against Val LaPorte. Things didn't go in his favor there as he first fouled away a 7.56 against Val's 7.80. And then a 7.60 in the second race, lost the match to Val's 7.40. On May 7, he was at Gary, Indiana's US 30, for a rematch against Cook. It was just not Chris' day as he got out of shape in their first race and shut down while Cook ran 8.18 to win. Chris shut down again with problems in the second race, and Emory won the match two straight with an 8.01. Another best of three match was held at Motor City Dragway, where Karamesines faced Kalitta's Winternationals-winning Ford. Chris was very late in their first race, and his 7.49/194.38 lost to Kalitta's 7.92/207. Chris fouled in the second race and ended up losing the match. He was at Cecil on May 21 for a best-of-three-match race against Joe Jacono. In their first race, Jacono broke while Karamesines ran 7.62/199 to win. Joe could not run after the first race, so Ron Rivero took his place. Ron then won the second race with a 7.49/206. Chris did not get an ET, but his speed was 199 again. Chris wrapped up the match in the final race by running 7.54/199 when Rivero fouled away a 7.46/206. On May 30, Karamesines was at Gary, Indiana, for the UDRA Championships. His 7.41/205.46 beat Don Garlits in the opening round of eliminations. In the second round, his 7.47/205 beat Dave Powers, but in the semifinals, his 7.39/205 fell to the eventual winner Vern Anderson's 7.19/214. Garlits was Karamesines' opponent on June 25 at Milan, and the "old man" proved to be tough to beat. Something Chris did not do on this day. In their first race, his 7.73/152 fell to Garlits' 7.44/208. Chris improved to 7.48/205 in the second race, but Don also improved to 7.37/207 to win. Even though Garlits had already won the match, the two lined up for one final race where Don ran 7.23 to win while Karamesines ran his best speed of the day at 208.80. He got payback on LaPorte on July 9 at St. Thomas, where he beat him in their match race and set a track record 7.75/195.64. The following week (July 15), he was at Lions for the big 64-car PDA Championships. His 7.38/209 defeated Tom Toler in the opening round of eliminations. Unfortunately, he lost early as Dave Beebe beat him in the next round. He also competed in the Mr. USA Top Fuel Meet at Cecil County on July 29. He caught a really good light in the first round, where his 7.47/197 beat Walt Kinsley's 7.22/210. But he tried to do it again in the second round and fouled against eventual winner Mike Snively in the "Hawaiian." AKA the red We needle Nose car.
