Notes: Bob attended the NHRA Division 6 race at Mission Raceway in July. In the opening round, his 6.40/181.08 beat Tom Christensen's 6.78/198. In the semi-final, he then ran 6.27/228.42 to defeat Mike Palmer's 6.43/214. He was to face Rob Bruins in the final, but he suffered engine damage in his semi-final win and could not run. Shortly after that, he was in Seattle for the PDA's first of three races. It was a 32-car field, and in round one, his 6.61 advanced when Jim Bucher's Chevy failed to fire. Gary Beck threw a blower belt in the second round, and Mitchell ran 230.17 to advance. He lost in the next round. He qualified #16 at the NHRA Seattle event with a time of 6.106/235.60. Bob broke against Hank Johnson in round one. That was Bob's only NHRA national event in 1976. |
