Notes: Ormsby was at Kingdon for an eight-car show in January. He qualified #4 with a 7.76, and he lasted until the semifinals before losing to Rich Bruckman. Shortly after that, he was at Fremont, where six cars showed. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 7.53. An opening round 7.79 defeated Chuck Flores, who got out of shape and shut off. In the semifinal, he was late off the line, and his 7.72/203.60 (Top Speed), lost to eventual winner Rich Zoucha's 8.10/187. On June 17, he was back at Fremont, where he ran 7.75/212 in qualifying. Unfortunately, he blew his engine in the opening round of eliminations. He also ran 7.54/199.54 at Fresno, CA, 4/02/67. - Per Steve Reyes, this car was originally owned by Bob Sbarboro and driven by Larry" Shorty" Leventon when it debuted in late 1965. Then SoCal resident "Wild" Bill Alexander took over the driving chores in 1966. Howard Cameron then purchased the car and put this green kid from Oklahoma named Gary Ormsby in the driver's seat. Gary had got some driving experience at the wheel of the "Vagabond" AA/FD so Cameron gave him a chance to drive the "Cheetah" on a regular weekly basis. Can anyone confirm if Sbarbaro was still involved or if this was strictly Cameron’s car? - JMrn |
