Notes: Ontario 5.923/231.95 was the 9th entry into the Cragar Five Second Club. John recalls a best speed of 233 (told to Bill on 2/17/11). Also 230.76. John PO’ed Don Garlits at Irwindale's Grand Premiere. He qualified #9 for the sixteen-car show setting up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Garlits. John ran a 6.45 in the first round, to beat Garlits' 6.54. The "old man" wasn't happy. Stewart went on to beat Danny Ongais in the second round, but lost to Don Moody's 6.60 in the semifinal with a better 6.58. Ran 6.317/215.31 at NHRA Indianapolis IN 8/31/75. |
