Notes: Turk won the A/FD class at Phoenix Drag Strip on Jan. 8 with an 8.87-second clocking. They towed the dragster to Fontana for a big fuel and gas meet on Jan. 22. He took fuel top eliminator with 181.44 mph. During eliminations for top eliminator, he blew his engine on a 9.36 at 159.85 mph pass. On May 27 at Phoenix Drag Strip, Turk took top eliminator with 170.77 mph, beating the twin-engined dragster of Meredith-Eschenbaugh-Barnes.
