Notes: Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from hand written run sheet from Lions Funny Car match race at Lions on 6/12/71. Sopwith Camel ran a nice 6.95/207.37 in the first round. We need to confirm that was Mike driving. Was jim terry involved? | Yes, per the 70’s Funny Cars website, info supplied by Gordon Swearingen, this car was owned by Thermos and Jim Terry, and was driven by Swearingen after Ron Rivero drove it briefly. There is no mention of Thermos driving, as he was, at that time, busy getting NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems) up and running. Swearingen states that the car qualified at all the events they ran but did not “light the world on fire” with it. Swearingen says the car was campaigned less often than he and Terry wanted, so in 1974 they left and formed their own team. JM
