Notes: Arnie started driving John's Cuda in competition on June 13 at Lions for its All-American series race. Arnie qualified #1 with a 7.39 but came up against the always tough Gene Conway in the first round. Sure enough, Conway set Low ET at 7.26/202.70 while beating Behling's close 7.30/203.61 (Top Speed). Arnie got back into the show for the semifinals when Steve Bovan broke. He made good use of his second chance by running a 7.60/196.07 to beat Bob Smith's 7.95/163 in "Bad Bascomb's Ghost." That put him in the final, where once again, he faced Conway's Corvette. Arnie must have been a little nervous as he fouled away a 7.79/193.54, giving Gene the victory. At the OCIR March of Dimes race on June 20, he set Low ET at 7.25/199.50 in his first-round victory over Conway's 7.74/195. In the semifinal, a 7.67/199.55 beat Ed Lenarth's 7.72/194. But against Mike Snively in the final, he got a little anxious and fouled, running a 7.41/202.70. Snively ran a 7.26/203.61 for the win. On July 3 for the Nitro Championships at OCIR, he again set Low ET at 7.25, but this time, it came in the final while beating Ray Alley for the win. He ran an easy 7.64/190.67 in the first round, when Jack Chrisman's Mustang broke. A 7.46/180.36 beat Dave Beebe's 7.48/195 in round two, and in the semifinal, he set Top Speed with a 7.43/200.44 pass over Snively's 7.67/194. His final round numbers were 7.25/200.00 over Alley's 7.95/191. He went out and did it again the next day at Irwindale's Fourth of July race. He beat a troubled John Lombardo with a 7.81/190.26 in the first round. In the semifinal, he was to have met Ray Alley, but Alley broke, so Arnie soloed with a 7.59/186.32. He set Low ET and Top Speed in the final with a 7.53/191.88, beating Conway's off pace 8.36/111. On July 11, he ran at the AHRA All-American meet at Lions. Again he came away with Low ET and Top Speed when he won his first-round race over Vic Morse with a 7.31/198.67. He beat Ray Alley in the semifinal with a rear-end breaking 8.02/133.13 but could not fix the car in time for the final, so Alley returned to run with the break rule in effect. He qualified #1 on August 1 at Irwindale's Gold Cup Championships and beat Barry Kelly's Corvair in the first round, with a 7.38 (Low ET) at 186.32, but in round two, he won the race when Frank Rupert crossed the centerline, but Behling's car caught fire and was unable to return for the semifinals. He was ok. On August 15, they were back at it at the OCIR Anniversary Race. Once again, Arnie had Low ET and Top Speed at 7.14/210.78 (track speed record). He beat John Lombardo's 7.57/192 in the first round, with a 7.19/208.81. But the car came up ailing in round two and could only muster a 7.99/171.42, losing to Ed Lenarth's 7.64/181. At Indy for the US Nationals, a 6.895/214.79 qualified #3, but he lost a blower belt on the line in the first round, and Ken Safford advanced. That was the only NHRA national event that the team ran together. On September 13, Behling was at Lions for an eight-car All-American race. He qualified #1 with a 7.39, and in the first round, his 7.30/203.61 (Top Speed) lost to Conway's 7.26/202. He got back into the show on the break rule and beat Bob Smith driving the "Bad Bascomb's Ghost" car in the semifinals with a 7.60/196.07. In the final, he reran Conway, and once again, the results were the same. Gene got the victory while Arnie's 7.79/193.54 finished runner-up. By the end of September, Rich Siroonian was back behind the wheel.
