Notes: Big Tom Larkin (the older one). Per Tom Larkin, the canard wings were his idea but Don Long didn’t want to put them on. So he worked with John Mitchell to make them and Long eventually put them on. He now realizes he should have laid them back more. They mounted the chute high for added stability, but probably should have had a wing. This car was being built before Garlits made his rear-engine car, and took 39 weeks to build due to all the trick new ideas being employed. Larkin says he sold this car to the Hilton family of Cincinnati, OH, and they did well with it. JM |
