Notes: Tope qualified his gas burner in a Top Fuel meet at Milan Dragway, MI on 7/28/68, with a respectable 7.85-186.32. ("Why not if you have the guts to run with the big fuelers?" stated the event writeup). Tope battled it out till the final, only to lose with a redlight against the Mudrak Bros. - RT | Tope was at Tri-City on June 2 for the NHRA Division 3 opener. In the opening round, his 7.88/186.72 beat Joe Keene's 7.86/174. John Hilton had problems against him in the semifinal, and Rick advanced with a 7.93/191.88. In the final, he went up against Larry Petit, and Larry fouled, so Rick puttered down the track at 12.44 for the victory. - RH |
