Notes: Raced at Irwindale Memorial Day race in 1971. Ran 6.680 at Irwindale Grand Prix 71. | Williams was one of 41 Top Fuel cars that attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car field on May 15 at Irwindale for the NHRA Division 7 race. His 6.83 qualified #6, but he lost in the opening round. | Per Steve Reyes: 1971 marked the return to top fuel for Bob Williams. The San Diego based Williams had raced at a NHRA WCS event in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1970. Returning home Bob and his wife and crew were involved in a serious head on collision. The accident killed his crew member and gravely injured him, his wife escaped serious injury because she had been sleeping in the camper shell on their truck. It took him almost a year to recover but there he was in his AA/FD racing at Fremont in 1971. JM |
