Notes: Also turned an 8.19/187.10 at the March Meet at Bakersfield. Gary was at Lions on April 25. There were so many cars that the track ran two eight-car shows. Gabelich's 8.45/185.94 didn't qualify for the first eight, but it was good enough for the #2 spot in the second eight-car field. Unfortunately, he had problems in the first round, against Don Hampton and shut off on the line. On May 17, he was back at Lions for the UDRA Fuel Meet. He qualified with an 8.14, but lost early. Another trip to Lions on May 30 saw Gary qualify #7 with an 8.40/185.56, but he lost fire in the first round, advancing Bob Noice. -- RH | Contemporary news reports indicate the Sandoval Bros. ran two cars in '64 -- this one with team member Madden and a new Sandoval Bros. car called "Scoundrel" that debuted in mid-December. Gabelich drove both, along with multiple stints at the wheel of the "Valkyrie" jet dragster. -- RT |
