Notes: Bob was at Irwindale on May 15 for the NHRA Division 7 race. Forty-one cars attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car field and Bob's 6.80 qualified #5. An opening round 6.98 advanced over Roger Rowe, but another 6.98 at 191.08 lost to eventual winner Rick Ramsey's 6.83/204. A week later (May 22), he was at OCIR for another sixteen-car show. Unfortunately, a first-round 6.98/205.71 lost to eventual winner Dwight Salisbury's 6.78/218. Noice was back at Irwindale for the Memorial Day Championships on May 31. This was an eight-car field and Bob's 6.91 in the first round, lost to Don Moody's 6.73. At the second Division 7 race held at Fremont, Bob again went out early. A 6.98 in the first round, lost to Dave Uyehara's 6.65. He failed to qualify for the OCIR Nitro Championships, but he wasn't alone as Salisbury, James Warren, Ken Safford among others failed to make the sixteen-car field. He also failed to qualify at OCIR for the PDA Championships on July 28. Grand Prix, Irwindale CA 1971. Bob qualified #29 at NHRA Ontario at 6.858 (no speed recorded). He lost to Carl Olson in round one, 6.72/214 to 6.81/205.94. | The Acceleration Archive's UK reporter took photos with his round-by-round coverage of the '71 Supers, here online, and shows Noice in the new, unpainted, Brissette Avenger Tuttle car. This is the same Tuttle RE that they ran well through 1975. - Joe Moore |
