Notes: He swapped out his flathead engine for a '55 Chev in the rear-engined dragster. On Sep. 25 at Santa Ana, he made his first and second runs on gas, clocking 119 mph on the first pass and 11.50 at 121 mph on the second. He switched to fuel but had nothing but problems, so he called it quits. He was classified in C Roadster at Santa Ana on Oct. 30. At that race, he got top time, top eliminator, and won his class. His best speed was 139.28 mph. Other newspapers reported that he ran in D Roadster, but it was essentially for dragsters as it was the same class that Losinski and Duncan raced in. On Oct. 23 at Santa Ana, he beat the Bean Bandits to take a class victory in D "roadster" with 140.78 mph. On Oct. 30, he repeated his win at Santa Ana with a 139.28 mph run. He notched another win at Santa Ana on Nov. 20, clocking 134.78 mph. He repeated at Santa Ana again on Dec. 11, winning with a speed of 137.50 mph in the meet's fastest race. Notes: On Aug. 17 at San Gabriel Drag Strip, he was runner-up to Bill Butters in Groh's Texaco A/D in top eliminator. In the first round of eliminations he clocked 11.81 at 119.84 mph. He was one of 26 A Dragsters who were at the U.S. Nationals in Oklahoma City, but success eluded him. On Nov. 30, he took gas top eliminator at Colton with 11.64 at 133.33 mph. On Dec. 21 at San Gabriel, he took top time, low ET, and top eliminator wins. He grabbed the top eliminator trophy with 10.78 at 132.35 mph. His low ET was 10.63 and best speed was 133.33 mph. Notes: In 1961, they jumped out of the flathead gas class into the gas dragster ranks. They were holders of the national 1320 record in C Flathead Gas Dragster which they set at Lions on Mar. 10, 1961 at 10.79 at 123.96 mph. They competed against perennial winner Al Freeman at Lions in the D/D class and once they got things sorted out, began winning with regularity. At Lions on Nov. 18, they won D/D class with 9.81 at 142.40 mph. On Nov. 26 at San Gabriel, they took a D/D class win with 10.14 at 136.82 mph. The next week on June 16 at Quad-City, they set another new record with 11.5 at 125.87 mph. On July 7 at Cordova, they took a class victory and Junior Eliminator honors. Their best times were 11.85 and 123.28 mph. On July 27, at Cordova, they broke the strip record with a speed of 128.57 mph at 11.51 seconds. On Aug. 3 at Quad-City, they were beaten in a 2-of-3 match race against Jim Selkirk's B/GS gasser. They still clocked a very quick new record of 11.49 run at 125 mph. Bisby-Williamson had the misfortune of breaking an axle on the second run. On Aug. 17 at Cordova, they took a class win with 11.22 and 131.62 mph, setting a new A/MSP record in the process. They also took Junior Eliminator. The next week on Aug. 25 at the World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova, they won their class with 11.33 at 130.46 mph. Notes: Before experiencing mechanical trouble, Moritz-McClintock had to drop out of competition at the Tulsa North Airport drag strip on Mar. 22. They still clocked the meet's fastest speed of 169 mph at 9.20 seconds. Newspapers reported that they would be racing at the North Airport strip on April 12. They reported that some time previously, Charlie McClintock set the track ET record at 8.51 seconds. McClintock took top eliminator on April 12 with a clocking of 9.17 at 158.73 mph. On May 17 at the Tulsa North Airport, Charlie McClintock took top eliminator with 8.91 at 162.45 mph. On June 21 at Springfield-Ozark Dragway, they took top eliminator and won the A/GD class with best times of 8.75 and 168.85 mph. On July 26 at the Springfield-Ozark Dragway, they took top eliminator and top gas eliminator and won the A/GD class. They won $150 for taking top eliminator. Back at Tulsa's North Airport on Aug. 2, McClintock won top eliminator with 8.75 at 157.34 mph. On Aug. 16 at the Oklahoma State Championships at Tulsa North Airport, McClintock took top eliminator and set a new track ET record with 8.48 seconds. Notes: He took top eliminator at Kil-Kare Drag Strip on Apr. 30 with a speed of 163.636 mph. On May 14 at Dragway 42 near West Salem, Ohio, he garnered the meet's fastest speed with 166.74 mph. He set a new strip record at Dragway 42 on June 10 with 170.13 mph. On June 18 at Dragway 42, he took top eliminator honors and clocked the meet's fastest speed with 170.45 mph. He took top eliminator again at Dragway 42 on June 25 with a speed of 172.74 mph. On July 2, he ran the meet's fastest speed of 169 mph at Dragway 42. He was indeed "The Man" at Dragway 42 with his streak of victories. Newspaper ads named him "Ohio's Fastest." On July 16, he took the meet's top speed and top eliminator. His fastest run was 9.03 at 171.42 mph. He beat Pat Bilbo in a match race on July 23 with a best speed of 168.85 mph. It was more of the same on Sep. 10 at Dragway 42 when he swept to a top eliminator win with 9.20 at 170.49 mph. When Midwest weather shut down the racing action, he towed his dragster to California. He made the trek west with Connie Kalitta, and the two butted heads at Lions on Nov. 4. Collett was beaten by Kalitta but got the meet's top times with 8.87 and 172 mph. Collett was consistent with four runs in the 8's. The next day, the two faced each other again in the top eliminator finals on Nov. 5 at Kingdon, but it was the same outcome. Collett got top speed (164.23 mph) and low ET (8.93) but was beaten by Connie Kalitta in the top eliminator finals. At that point, Kalitta was listed as #2, and Collett was #8 on the 1320 Mr. Eliminator national list. The two dragster pilots stuck around for another week, racing at Lions again on Nov. 11. Kalitta defended his Number 2 spot on the Mr. Eliminator list against Tom McEwen. He went through two rounds of eliminations, beating Bill Butters, driving the Groh's Texaco B/D in the first round with 9.61 at 172.74 mph. But he lost to Tommy Ivo in the second round when he had to back out of it to get traction and couldn't catch Ivo. His losing time was 9.00 at 167.59 mph. The next day, on Nov. 12, Collett raced at San Gabriel, where he took a class win in A/GD with 8.92 at 170.77 mph. He beat Kalitta in the first round of eliminations. He also recorded an 8.85 run during the day. Collett was persuaded to stay around for another week to make an appearance at Lions on Nov. 18. He made some blistering runs of 178.21 and 177.51 mph but had the misfortune to blow his engine before he could compete.
