Notes: Gary Densham was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he ran 5.14/284.90 to qualify #9. He advanced with an easy pass in the opening round when Dean Skuza left before the tree was activated. In the second round, he ran a career-best (to this point) 4.991/305.49 to beat Al Hofmann, who shut off early in the run. That made Gary the 13th member of the Castrol Four Second Club. But in the semifinals, he overpowered the track and smoked the tires, losing to Tim Wilkerson. It wasn't long after that that he was in Arizona for the next NHRA event. But this time, he had problems and could only run a best of 6.52/146.24 in qualifying, which was good for the second alternate. The Pomona 4.991 was his best ET of the year, and Gary ran his best speed at Ennis Fall at 307.27. |
