Notes: Pat drove the car at the Fallnationals and the World Finals. He ran 6.274/234.98 at Seattle to qualify #6 (setting Top Speed). In round one, he beat Tripp Shumake, 6.72 to 7.16 (speeds unavailable). In round two, Mike Miller broke on the line, sending Pat forward, but he fouled against Ed McCulloch in the semis, tossing out a 7.63/79 as the Ace motored to a 12-second win. Pat ran 6.244/230.17 for the #4 slot at the World Finals. He beat a broken Raymond Beadle in round one, with a shutoff 8.31/100. In round two, he beat Rick Johnson, 6.396/224.42 to 6.44/228. He had a heartbreaking loss in the semis. McCulloch broke on the line, but Pat crossed the centerline in taking his single and was disqualified. That reinstated McCulloch, who broke again in the final, giving Don Prudhomme the win. We need to confirm the 6.21. |

Notes: Qualified at 6.288/230.76 at 78 NHRA Pomona Winternationals. Lost a close 6.420/217.91 to 6.440/233.32 first-round match against Gene Snow. | Foster was at Bonneville for the fourth NHRA Division 7 race. He made it into the final against Henry Harrison, but the Firebird tossed a blower belt, and Harrison got the victory. Did Pat run 6.20 in this car? Also, the 233.32 in a close first-round loss at Pomona was probably 223.32, but we are taking it right off the NHRA lists. He qualified #14 at the Gatornationals at 6.600. Improved to a 6.390/230.76 in round one, but lost to Billy Meyer's 6.370/231.95. At Indy, Foster showed up in the Super Shops car and finished the season in that ride. Joe Pisano did not run any additional NHRA events. Pat was at the OCIR Funny Car Spectacular held on June 10. In the second round, he ran 6.26/244.98 to beat Jeff Courtie's 6.74/206.89. Was that in the Pisano car or the Super Shops car? |

Notes: Whose comp number is 744. Pat Foster was 760 at this time. (#744 was last listed as Mike Halloran. Don't think it was him tho?) We need to confirm that Pat drove this car in 1979 (at even one event). He drove the Super Shops car in NHRA competition all year. Formerly listed 6.285/230 times, but I believe those were from 1978 season. Let me know if we are wrong. |

Notes: Foster had a bad fire at Lakeland early in November. He was there for a four-car race. He got out on Don Gay in his first race and looked to have him beat until the Mustang shut down and Gay roared past in the lights. He was unable to race any more that day as Sonny Atkins rolled his blown altered roadster, and it ended up coming to a rest on top of Foster's Mustang. | Did this car switch to a blower in the late season? It would make sense, as many FCs did. - RT |

Notes: This was one of the first five funny's to top 200 mph. Making a lot of horsepower to push that big frontal area to those speeds. Sid debuted this car for some test runs at Memphis on August 17. The car had just been finished earlier that week. With some old slicks on the car the ET's weren't the best, but on the second pass he ran 174 and on his last of three runs he turned 179.64. This was on a 184 track record. Best et in '68 was a 7.51. Confirmed 7.76 Jackson Sid raced at an eight-car show at New York on October 13. He singled in the first round, when Ken Poffenberger failed to fire, and another single run of 7.88 got him into the final when Al Hanna was unable to show. In the final, a 7.89 finished second best to Henry Garcia's 7.73 in the Car Shop Camaro. - RH | Photo from the '68 OCIR mfg. meet. Ran 7.80s. |

Notes: Foster faced Jim Liberman at a best two-out-of-three match race at Cecil County in March. Liberman beat him two straight with runs of 7.83/171 over the Super 'Cuda's 8.10/183.66 and 7.60/187 over Sid's 8.07/169. On March 16, Sid was at Shelby International, one of four fuel FCs running. He won his first race over Clare Sanders in Liberman's second car with a 7.95/193.06. In the second race, Foster fouled against Dick Harrell. A third race was run between Harrell and the "Super 'Cuda." Sid didn't foul this time, but his 7.76/196.50 lost to Harrell's track records of 7.51/204.53. Not long after this, Sid started campaigning the "Super Ford" Torino. - RH |

Notes: After driving the successful "Super Ford" Torino in '68 and '69, Foster had this new 118" Logghe built Mustang for '70. The car used a stock displacement 427 SOHC with M/T rods and pistons. A pair of Joe Lunati cams were also used with the stock heads and valve train. Up top, a Cragar intake manifold supported the 20% overdriven GMC 6/71 blower. Enderle injectors were used. A Coleman and Taylor prepared C-6 transferred the estimated 1,500 hp back to the Detroit Locker with 3.70 gears. The Mustang weighed in at 2,180 lbs. Cammer-powered Mustang set a short-lived track record at Gainesville at 7.296 (193.13) on February 13 for the Gatornats. The record was beaten the same day by Larry Arnold. On April 12, Foster was at Delmar for a match race against Charlie Allen. Sid had handling problems in their first race, and his 11.54/168.66 lost to Allen, who blew a transmission at 10.22/125. The Mustang lost a transmission in the second race and slowed to 10.32/78.12 to lose to the Dodge's 8.01/188. Sid blew his engine in the final race, and Allen ran 7.94/182 to win three straight. He then went to Connecticut for another match race. This time he was up against Jimmy King, who was driving Frank Federici's "Shark" Corvette. Both had problems on their first run, but Foster's 8.43/178.57 beat the 'Vette's 9.61/160. King fouled in the second race, and Sid saw it, so he coasted through for the win. In the final race, the Mustang broke while Jimmy ran a great 7.64/189. Sid took on "Jungle Jim" Liberman in a best of three match at a 1,000-foot track late in May. In the first race, the Mustang lost second gear and the race. In their second race, JJ took the win. They decided to run the third race anyway, and Liberman fouled while Foster got the win with a 6.14. Near the end of May, he was at Huntsville, Alabama, for a match race against Shirl Greer. In the first race, Shirl's 7.45 held off Sid's 203.77 top-end charge. In the second race, Greer broke, and Foster's 7.50/204.66 got the win. Greer could not return for the final race, so Sid soloed with a 7.42/205.87 for the match race win. - RH | Sid was the first alternate at the NHRA Springnationals (times unavailable). Columbus and Gainesville were his only two NHRA national events this year. Sidney also ran 6.18 at 1,000 feet at Humboldt IA 9/70 | Photo from Minnesota Dragways, summer 1970. – RT |

Notes: Sid Foster was a Ford guy. He had always run Fords and he made a splash in Funny Car racing by driving Larry Coleman's "Super Ford" Torino. It was one of the first five FC's to top 200 mph and it was always a strong runner. In '70, he teamed with his brother Gerald on a Mustang that he ran until the end of the season before it was sold. After that, he dropped out of racing for a complete year before he returned in '72 with this Mustang. His earlier efforts all used SOHC Ford motors for power, but he knew you couldn't beat the 426 Hemi for reliable power. So, the new car used a 484 version of the Hemi. A Moldex 1/2" stroker crank got him the cubes. M/T rods held Forgedtrue pistons. The cam came from Crower. Cragar supplied both the blower drive and manifold. An Enderle injection unit sat on top of the GMC 6/71. The power got to the 4.88 rear by a Lenco two-speed. Early runs were in the 6.70s at 215. Sid missed both the AHRA and the NHRA Winternationals due to sickness, but Bobby Rowe drove the car at those events. |

This car got major press when it was the subject of a five-page feature in the 2/69 issue of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated. "SS&DI Drives a Fuel Funny Car" regaled readers with the (successful) efforts of SS&DI editor Jim McCraw to earn his NHRA Funny Car Competition license. - RT |
