Notes: The Ted DeTar-built "Texas Badman" Torino got renamed after Ted died in a racing accident (mid-December of the previous year) and Ivey relocated to Missouri. -- RT | Terry was at Indianapolis in Mid-April, where they had six fuel Funny Cars running. He ran three races. In his first race, his 8.41/174 lost to Fritz Callier. He beat Paul Stefansky's "Super Stang" in the second race with an 8.17/182. The third race saw Pat Minick in the "Chi-Town Hustler" run 7.63/199 to beat his 8.38/176. -- RH |

Notes: The Torino had a number of paintjobs; unclear what year this photo shows. -- RT | On September 7, Ivey was at Green Valley Raceway for the AHRA Grand American held there. In the first round, his 7.89 beat the "Hemi Hoss" of Hunt and Taylor. In round two, a 7.82 beat Gitthens and Allen, but in the semifinals, the Torino lost fire on the line and Terry Pringle singled into the final in Gene Snow's Dart. -- RH |

Notes: In January, Tommy Ivo debuted his new Dodge Sport at Fremont's Nitro Bowl. He ran pretty well, hitting an opening round 6.77/200.87 over Ken Silvestri, who hit the guardrail. In his second race, his 6.75 lost to Tom McEwen's 6.56, and a 6.66 in the third race beat Dale Pulde, who smoked the tires in the "Chicago Patrol." Ivo's next race was the NHRA Winternationals, but he failed to qualify. He did run well at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where his 6.471/224.43 qualified #8. A first-round 6.52/219.51 beat Al Segrini, who was driving Bill Leavitt's new Monza, and in round two, his 6.49/221.67 took out Topper Kramer's 6.56. But in the semifinals, he came up against Don Prudhomme, and the "Snake's" 6.45 put Ivo's 6.55/209.30 on the trailer. In April, he was at Englishtown for the Spring Funny Car Bonanza race. It was an eight-car show, and Ivo won it. He started by running 6.75/218.97 to beat Tommy Grove's 7.06, and in the semifinals, he got around Bruce Larson. That put him into the final against Ron Jackson. Ron was no slouch as he had set both Low ET and Top Speed, but he smoked the tires in the final, and Ivo picked up the victory. In May, he won the Napierville Funny Car Nationals. The traction was terrible due to rain pelting the track, and his best run was only 7.16. Shortly after that, he was at Atco Dragway for the Cars Magazine Meet. His opponent Roy Harris had a bad fire in the "Brutus" car in the first round, and Ivo advanced with a 6.71/209. He also soloed in the semifinals when Pete Hill lost a motor on the line. Tom's 6.63/194.80 moved him into the final. He faced Grove in the final, and Grove ran Low ET and Top Speed with a 6.55/229 to beat Ivo's 6.64/213.77 runner-up effort. Tommy could not make the field for the NHRA Springnationals, where his 6.718/213.77 best was good for the third alternate. Tommy did not qualify at NHRA Englishtown (times not reported). Raced the Dart in 1976 until late July or August, then converted to the Cordoba. |

Notes: Used Cordoba body after ruining Dart. Tom blew the Cordoba body off this car in early 1977 and finished the season in yet another Dart. Chronology for this Cordoba is July/August 1976 through March/April 1977. Due to the notch-back roof, the car had turbulence issues on the rear deck, and just weeks after its debut, Ivo was using coat hangers (!) to keep the rear spoilers from tearing off the car. This is a true story; I witnessed it firsthand. - David Hapgood | Ivo was at Sacramento on January 1 for a best-of-three match race against Dale Armstrong, who was running Nitro for the first time. Ivo won all three races and the match with a best of 6.22/214. |

Notes: Confirmed 6.159/236.22 at 78 NHRA Winternationals (qualified #2). Also Low ET and Top Speed for Funny Cars at 6.41/220.04 at the 1978 Jet, Rocket, Wheelstanding, and Funny Car Nationals at Union Grove. Ran 6.35/221 at New England Funny Car Nationals. | Ivo started the season by winning the Sacramento New Year's Day Funny Car race. He stopped Gary Burgin in the final. As mentioned, Ivo qualified #2 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He made it to the final by beating Dave Hough in the "Super Shops" Arrow with a 6.38/220 to Dave's 6.47/216. A 6.48/226 beat Denny Savage and a semifinal 6.73/225 got around Tom Prock in the "Detroit Tiger" car. Unfortunately, Tommy broke in the final and Don Prudhomme soloed for the win. Did Tommy go 240 somewhere this year? |

Notes: This is the former Vega updated by Randy Wertz at John McLaughlin's JOMAC Race Cars in Englewood. They lengthened the wheelbase from 118" to 125" with a new front half, replaced the Chevy engine with a 484 KB Hemi purchased from Guzman, mounted a new 1983 G&K Pontiac Trans Am body, and did the tin work. 1984 photo. |

Notes: The team qualified #15 at Bandimere at 7.168/162.74 and improved mightily to a 6.402/215.31 in round one but lost to Jim Head's 6.161/223.32. That was the team's only NHRA national event. Photo from Green Valley Race City, TX. |
