Lost a heartbreaker to Tony’s brother Cruz in round two, 4.999 -302.28 to 5.014/296.31. Ennis Fall – 3rd alternate, 5.099/243.57; Las Vegas Fall – Qualified #15 at 4.950/304.53, and then won first-round over Gary Densham, 5.789/176.93 to 20.648/29.46. Fell in round two to the THIRD Pedregon brother, Frank, 4.969/293.35 to 5.168/271.08. Finished the season at the Pomona AAA Finals with a 6th alternate DNQ, 5.062/291.01. All in all, a much improved NHRA performance over the year. |

Notes: Jackson was at Englishtown in April for its Spring Funny Car Bonanza race. It was an eight-car show, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 6.82/221.13 lost to Bruce Larson's 6.54/206. He got back in on the "break rule," and in the semifinal, he ran 6.50/227.27 (Low ET and Top Speed) to beat Al Bergler. He faced Tommy Ivo in the final, and unfortunately, Ron smoked the tires and had to settle for the runner-up spot. Ron was at the NHRA Division 1 race at Cayuga in May. He had an easy first-round win when Larry Fullerton broke a transmission, but he broke against eventual winner Stan Bowman in the semifinals. Shortly after that, he was back at Englishtown for a best of three match race against Larson. Ron won the first race with a tire-smoking 6.98/212.26 when Bruce shut down. Larson then evened things up with a 6.54/216 that won the second race over Jackson's 7.11/196.07. The last race was never run as rain canceled the final. The 70s funny cars site claims this is a Woody Gilmore chassis, updated in 1976 by S&W. |
