Notes: Car definitely ran as a Rocket car in 1978, but did it start the year as a fuel funny car? We need to find out exactly when Fred converted the car to rocket power. |

Notes: The team ran the AHRA circuit this year. They definitely ran at the AHRA GrandNationals in Ohio, where the freshly mounted 1979 Trans Am body was still in primer. The team did not run any NHRA national events this year. The car was sold to Ronny Young & Terry Darby, becoming the Shock Wave. |

Notes: Who was the chassis builder, Pat Foster/Mike Bell or Tony Casarez? | Mineo had been out of racing for a few years, but early in '91, he purchased Raymond Beadle's entire Funny Car operation. This included the transporter and all the spare parts. He showed up at Atlanta in May for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but he failed to qualify, running a best of 5.95/245.27. Mineo qualified #9 at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals with a career best 5.42/272.14. A 5.57/243.77 in the first round, lost to Al Hofmann's 5.32/268. He got a new best-ever ET in qualifying at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. There, he ran 5.32 at 271.49 to qualify #8. An off-pace 5.62/236.96 in the first round, lost to Gary Bolger's 5.38/253. He continued to run strong when he turned a 5.37/274.22 to qualify #7 at the NHRA Heartland Nationals. Mineo beat Richard Hartman in the first round, with a 5.38/268.17, but in the second round, he lost to the meet's eventual winner Mark Oswald, who ran 5.28/274 to beat Gordon's 5.48/237.09. He made his best showing of the year at the NHRA Chief Nationals. He qualified #12 with a 5.42/272.23. A first-round 5.40/267.69 beat a tire smoking Ed McCulloch and in round two, he beat John Force who also smoked the tires with a 5.36/271.08. In the semifinals, it was Mineo who overpowered the track and went up in smoke, losing to Jim White's 5.23/289 in the "Hawaiian." The NHRA season ended at Pomona for the World Finals and Gordon was disappointed when his best of 5.55/271.65 failed to qualify (third alternate). Best times were the Keystone 5.325 and the 274.22 at Topeka. |

Notes: Gordon was at Pomona for the season-opening NHRA Winternationals, where he ran 5.44/272.72 to qualify #15. He lost to Cruz Pedregon in the first round. Mineo skipped the second NHRA event of the season, the Arizona Nationals, but he was back on tour at Houston for the Supernationals. He qualified #7 with a 5.31/282.57 and a first-round 5.33/276.92, taking out Gary Clapshaw's 5.37/267. In the second round, a 5.37/248.41 advanced over Jerry Caminito. In the semifinal, his 5.34/250.20 beat Tom Hoover's off pace 5.78/183. In the final, he faced another first-time finalist in Cruz Pedregon. Unfortunately, Gordon had problems and shut off to a 17.43/54.59 loss to Pedregon's 5.14/284. The next NHRA event was the Gatornationals on March 22. A 5.38/283.37 qualified #10, but Mark Oswald's 5.24/283 in the first round beat his 5.40/252.52. Atlanta was the next stop for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Once again, Gordon had little trouble qualifying, running a 5.31/246.64 for the #7 spot. In the first round, his 5.42/209.71 fell to Paul Smith's 5.33/236. At Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, Mineo opened some eyes when he qualified #3 with a 5.31/283.55 (Top Speed). He improved to a Low ET of the meet 5.24 at 259.59 in the first round while beating Gary Litton. In the second round, he slowed to a 5.46/266.19 that lost to John Force's 5.43/271. He qualified #5 with a 5.32/280.46 at the NHRA Springnationals. A 5.43/268.97 got past Gary Bolger in the first round, but in round two, he fouled away a 5.48/272.31 against Hofmann's 5.31/274. Mineo did not follow the tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, but he was at Englishtown for NHRA's ninth race of the season, the Summernationals. He qualified #5 with a 5.25/284.36 and a first-round 5.34/262.31 beat Caminito, but he was again stopped in round two. This time Chuck Etchells got him with a 5.25/277 beating Mineo's 5.44/236.65. Gordon had a great year with 5.20s at 280 plus at many events, including best times of 5.172 at the Finals and 285.35 at Indy. He was runner-up at the 1992 Houston Supernationals and the low qualifier at Sonoma in 1992. |

Notes: Low qualifier at Sonoma 1993 (setting a new track record). | Mineo, 61, and four others, including three members of his family, died in September 2006 as a result of a high-speed boating accident on a Texas lake. News accounts reported Mineo's craft collided with another boat during a 100-mph poker run. - RT | Photo from Ennis 93. - RO | Mineo started the '93 season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, his best of 5.88/187.57 was good for the second alternate spot. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, he qualified #14 with a 5.55/253.95. He beat Dale Pulde in the first round, with an off-pace 6.14/163.01. He broke in round two, giving Jim Epler a free ride into the semifinals. Gordon qualified #6 at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals with a 5.20/257.06. A troubled 6.14/166.29 beat an equally troubled Gary Densham at 7.40/104 in round one, but in round two, he lost a motor against Brent Fanning, and the resulting fire destroyed the Firebird body. He was OK. He had a new body installed in time for the NHRA Gatornationals. A 5.28/282.04 qualified #7. In the first round, Paul Smith fouled against him, and Mineo advanced with a 5.68/222.99. He lost to Freddie Neely in round two. |

Notes: Miner was at Warner Robins on March 31 for the NHRA Division 2 opener. The Funny Car field was weak, as only four cars showed. In the opening round of eliminations, his 6.98/201.35 lost to eventual winner Harry Hudson's 6.84/208. Pete was at the Lakeland National Open in May. He made it to the final against Shirl Greer, but his 7.00/199.55 lost to Greer's 6.76/190. Also ran 7.22 at Gainesville, 6.98 at Warner Robins WCS 74. |

Notes: Pete was the third alternate at NHRA Gainesville at 6.83/209.30. That was the team's only NHRA national event. He qualified third with a 6.85 in the eight-car field at the IHRA Winternationals at Darlington on March 20. He lasted until the semis when eventual winner Tom McEwen's 6.62/216 beat his off-pace 7.48/146.81. He also qualified for the IHRA Springnationals in Bristol on June 19. Johnny White beat him in the first round. In Aug, he won the NHRA Points race in Baton Rouge. A first-round 6.83 beat a tire-smoking Larry Brown, and a semifinal 6.86 beat Dennis Piranio's 7.45. In the final, a 6.96/202 beat Gordon Mineo's 7.05. At the PRO National Challenge race at Union Grove on September 11, he beat John Pott in round one, and he broke while running a 6.69/179 over Frank Oglesby's 6.71/206. He could not fix the car for the semifinal, so Oglesby was reinstated. Pete also ran 6.73 at Warner Robins. |

Notes: [There are a bunch of errors in this listing. The '66 Polara was a full-size car. Minick never drove a *funny* Dodge prior to the '69 Charger. The times given here -- a 1966 entry -- are *dated* 1967. The first car named "Chi-Town Hustler" was the Barracuda that debuted in the 1967 season. Lastly, contemporary news articles report Minick was driving John Farkonas' blown '65 Plymouth in a match against Arnie Beswick on July 24, 1966.] -- RT | We need to confirm this was a blown car. Replace aspiration and class if injected or carbs. | The "Chi-Town Hustler" debuted at the UDRA Championships at US 30, Gary, Indiana, on May 26. Pat qualified the car with an 8.59/171. In the first round, he slowed to a 9.35/147 that lost to Roger Wolford's Jeep at 8.69/166. |

Notes: This car debuted in '67. John Farkonas built the 120.5" frame. The Barracuda body came from Fiberglass Ltd, and it was interesting to note that it had no spoilers. A stock-sized 426 Hemi powered the car, and it used Venolian 8.5:1 pistons on stock Chrysler rods. Engle supplied the cam. An M/T manifold supported the Latus-built blower that was overdriven 33%. The 80% nitro was fed to the engine by a Hilborn injection unit. A TorqueFlite transmission supplied the power back to a Mopar rear housing 3.61 gears. | Minick was at Detroit on June 28 for the Midwest Funny Car Championships. It was a sixteen-car field, and his opening round 8.12/172.08 beat Dick Loehr. A second-round 8.13/173.74 lost to eventual winner Fred Goeske's 7.87/169. On July 30, the team was at Gary, Indiana, for an eight-car show. Unfortunately, a first-round 7.99/182.56 lost to eventual winner Loehr's 7.80/188. Pat raced at Minneapolis for an eight-car show on September 1. An easy 9.00/154.10 advanced past the first-round when Terry Hedrick fouled away a 7.89/180. In the semifinals, a 7.93/186.32 beat the Chapman Camaro, and in the final, he met Tommy Grove's Comet. Tom's 7.71/191 beat Pat's 8.12/181.44. He faced Roger Lindamood's "Color Me Gone" Charger on September 14 at Hollywood, Florida, for a best of three match. Minick won two straight with times of 9.81/95.44 and 8.25/177.46 over a bad handling Lindamood. The 'Cuda broke before their third race. Another best of three match was run at Connecticut on October 27 against Bill Lawton. Bill's track record 7.66 at 187.88 won the first race over Minick's 7.92/185.94. Pat came back to even the score in the second race with a 7.81/187.88 over Lawton, who got out of shape. In the deciding race, Bill won with a 7.68/192 over Minick's 7.76/187.50. |
