Notes: At Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals, Moore qualified #7 in the eight-car field with a 7.18/193. Traction was poor, and in round one, he smoked the tires and lost to Gary Densham. Jim failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He was in Seattle in the summer for its 64-car show, and while he didn't reach the final, he did run a best of 6.43. Qualified nicely at OCIR World Finals at 6.107/226.13, followed by a first-round loss to Gary Burgin, 6.04 to 6.46/187. |

Notes: Morgan had a match race against the "New Breed" Pontiac driven by Steve Barrett at Irwindale on June 15. The Corvette got out of shape in the first round and almost hit the guardrail while Steve's tire-smoking 9.44/168 won. In the second race, Morgan's 9.39 defeated Barrett's 9.91. The Pontiac failed to start in the third race, so Morgan ran an easy solo for the match race victory. Clyde was at Irwindale on June 24 for a best-of-three-match race against Charlie Allen's Dart. In their first race, Allen's 8.98/159 beat Morgan's 8.97/157.44. The Corvette got sideways in their second race, and Clyde shut down, giving Allen the match race win. |

Notes: Morgan drove Dick Harrell's Camaro to a win at AHRA's Kansas State Championships. He ran a best of 7.52/191.08 on the way to victory. On June 7, he ran at Bristol for the AHRA Springnationals. He beat a tire-smoking Don Prudhomme in the first round, with a 7.63/188.00. In his second round race, a 7.83/183.28 advanced when Roger Lindamood blew a transmission. But in the semifinals, a 7.52 lost to Gene Snow's Low ET of the meet 7.34/196. |

Notes: Clyde started the season at the Irwindale New Year's Day Race. A 7.55 qualified him fourth, and a sideways 8.05 beat Gene Conway's 8.25 in the first round. Gordon Mineo got out of shape against him in the second round, and his 7.88/178.21 advanced. In the semifinal, Don Hampton fouled, giving Morgan a free ride into the finals. Johnny Wright's 7.84/189 in Mickey Thompson's white Mustang beat Clyde's close 7.92/186.72. He then went to OCIR for the first All-Pro race on Jan 4. Conway turned the tables on Morgan by beating him in the first round. He attempted to qualify for the second All-Pro race held on the 18th, but he could not better the 7.57 "bump" it took to join the eight-car field. Another first-round loss came at Irwindale on January 26 when Ken Safford's 7.58/197 in the Mr. Norm Charger beat the Javelin's 8.06/146.57. Safford had Morgan's number when he again defeated him in the first round on February 15 at an eight-car show at Irwindale. Morgan qualified fifth with a 7.85 and ran a first-round 7.86/185.18 that lost to Ken's 7.56/188. On February 22, at the third OCIR All-Pro event, Clyde singled in the first round when Mike Snively's car failed to fire. Unfortunately, Clyde fouled away a 7.56 against Jake Johnston, who set Low ET with a 7.26 in the semifinal. |

Notes: I am Vic's younger brother. After driving a Fuller-chassied Top Fuel car in Oregon for a few years. Vic came to California. After building the Corvette, on his crossover license runs at Bakersfield, a heim end broke at 1000 feet and gently rolled the car over on its roof. After Cerny repaired the body, Vic won an 8 car show at Lions two weeks later (Pappy handed him his check). He ran at Seattle and Eugene in the summer of 70. If I remember correctly, he beat Frank Hall in the Green Elephant in Eugene (eighth mile) and ran over 200 at Seattle. The T car had the best of everything (Black, Cerny, Hanna, Dick Fletcher chassis). The car was built for a 2-speed and clutch, but ran a B&M Torqueflite. Then they switched to the clutch when Rusty Delling took over. After Morse relinquished driving chores to Delling, the car crashed at Lions, resulting in serious injury to Delling. - Steve Morse. A full-color centerspread photo of car appeared in the 1/71 issue of Super Stock & Funny Car. - RT | Mister T Corvette lots were a local used car dealerships that specialized in the sale of used muscle cars and race cars. They were a favorite haunt for Vietnam vets returning from war seeking a fast car. Mister T originally sponsored Steve Bovan in 69. - Bill Duke |

Notes: Ray was the fifth alternate at NHRA Pomona at 6.480/223.32. That was his only NHRA national event this year. | Green Valley Raceway track owner Bill Heilscher held a series of eight-car AA/FC shows called the 200 mph Funny Car Championships. The first was on February 7/8, and Tom Prock won both days on his first trip ever to the state of Texas. Saturday, Tom Prock beat Jim Nicoll with a 6.14/226, and on Sunday, he stopped Motes with a 6.14/233.76. - Bret Kepner |
