Notes: Leading the field at PDA Orange County on July 29 was rookie Tom Poindexter with a 5.96 to put him ahead of Marvin Graham and Dave Uyehara, who tied with 5.96s. Rob Bruins was fourth at 6.03, James Warren was fifth at 6.13, and eventual winner Larry Sutton was sixth at 6.13/240. - ND | 228+ sure could have been the speed with that 5.96 ... belt was off at 1000 feet ... but, I promise you, it was NOT in '78 - it was '80 (if my memory is correct) at one of the last 32-car fields in the country (guaranteed the last 32-car field for a PDA Championship) ... AND it was after Marvin (Graham) had already won Indy ... and as the article stated the one Larry (Sutton) won in the Circuit Breaker car). Marvin and I were the last two cars to make qualifying passes ... he on a single ahead of me ... me on the last pass of the night ... he ran a 5.968 (I think) ...
