Hi all! Ive been lurking for a while and figured it was about time I signed up. Its a great site y'all got going here.
Can't really say Ive been an active drag racer though I have been involved in a few builds over the years. Ive been married for the 26 years and have 2 grow kids.

Looking for 09 schedule

Postby Roger » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:13 pm

How is everyone doing?

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I am a former South Side Chicago guy and since joining the Army way ....way back in 66' I have been out of touch, retired after 26 yrs, and relocating in the south, same wife for 38 years, 4 kids, 36 down to 24,and three grand baby's, but the one thing in all my 62 years I have never forgotten is the rich and diverse Drag Racing histoy of Chicago.

I am a US 30 ghost and can vividly recall the likes of Jack Ditmar with Herby Mouller (L'll Screamer)Dick Stokes(Blue Bandit) Joe Amato(Whiskey A-go go) White bro.(40 ford coupe,White White and Vander----?) Larry Teeter (Vickey) Lutz &Lundberg(Claustraphobia Anglia) Ragamuffin (63 chevy 409) Gaglione's Jail Bait(clone car of SR&R)Al Phieffers Black (A/gas Anglia) EJ Potter(Mich. Madman) White Lightning(57 White Plymouth with an Allison Air Plane engine in the front seat) Grub's injected 427 Ford Falcon Ranchero (Damn Yankee's)and at least another 50 or so.

I was a rag man on "The Chevy" and made the gypsy voyages of that day and age, Martin MI US131, on Friday night, The Grove or Oswaygo on Saturday, back to 30 for Sunday! Street raced at the Ford plant, Car shows at the Ampitheater and The Pier, changed axels, polished aluminum and waxed paint til my fingers went numb. I even baby sat the boys a few times

Match raced 4 at a time at Rockford, had chili dog fights out tow car windows at 70 MPH, layed rosin with Clemmy (Black 2+2 Pontiac and the mouldey Green 55 ) at Cordova, watched a tape of "Hang on Sloopy" go out the window and in to the Mississippi River. I had to ride in the race car trailered, cause I snored louder then "The Chevy" when it had weed burners ion it. These are but a few of the things that come to mind. Dick chasing Eric through the field at the end of US 30 for missing a shift. Blowing up cars and dragsters with Alberts movie camera, "Skips" drive in on the north side, "Red's" on the south................racing in Deland FL.
Watching other gassers trailer thier stuff when "Shake Rattle & Run" showed up, I could go on and on and...........

At any rate I have been following these guys since I left, they've had some good times some bad times, and now I see they have "The Legend" back on the asphault, And I would dearly love to go see them in action one more time, if anyone knows of thier 09 schedule, (I know they ran Super Chevy for a few events last year) I sure would appreciate any info on where they may plan to be. I was hoping they would run the Holly Hot Rod & Musem Reunion in Bowling Green in July.

There's simply nobody like this crew..........nobody!
