All I can say is: All classes quicker than 6 sec. should be 1000 ft. 320 ft. more shutdown and slower speed would have made a big diff. for Niver and other victims.
Instead of killer sand & nets- shallow water pits would be better. So what if stuff gets wet? Better than dying.
Lot of testing would need to be done to regulate pit size and how to eliminate danger of an upsidedown racer drowning.
Eddyville, Ia. had huge blocks of styrafoam last time I was there. That was 2001 4th. of July bash.
The 1000 ft. rule would do the most good.
The 5 sec and quicker classes that run now ran much slower in the old days and could deal with 1/4 mile.
I recall in the early 50s experts claiming no one could ever go 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
Hell-I have an old Oswego, IL. Dragway award shirt I got forty years ago for the 100 mph. club.
