I think the point was missed... it's not the folks who humbly come seeking advice. I think those are rarely turned away. I think AJ was referring to the folks who come up acting as if they have the answer when they clearly do not. That's when it takes real restraint... :D bp

Rudeness always comes back to bite you in the b*ttocks, in the form of horrifically bad karma, like gettin' blindsided by a Mack truck... I'm not quite sure why that is, but it's definitely the truth... I'm still of the opinion as I stated in my original post, I greatly admire "Animal" for taking the high road and remaining polite and civil-- That's the kind of behavior that insures good karma and keeps you right with the world... Several years ago, a got a flat tire and had to call "Triple AAA", they sent some blowhard to help me out-- Once I told this blowhard that I was in the drag racing business, he started blabbing on and on, with so much local drag racing related misinformation that I really had to make an effort to bite my tongue and not tell him just how d*rn wrong he was (and I know he wasn't man enough to be a REAL MAN and accept a correction coming from a woman!!)... He proceeded to fix my car trouble and then went on his merry way... He definitely took the drag racing "Blowhard Award" for that particular year... I often wonder how such misinformation becomes so commonplace, especially when it's related to drag racing??... Once again, I believe "Animal" is right by staying cordial and being a gentleman in this sort of situation... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Good for you Doc. Sometimes it is really hard to deal with folks like that. I hear misinformation all the time about racing, classic cars and even unrelated car stuff. :o

I do correct people at times if it can be done smoothly or it is a safety issue. I think lot of people are too lazy to research the truth and rely on hearsay.

Then there people who misinterpret facts-or are no0t comeplete. I find this a lot on some personal message boards. Or on E-Bay etc.

Example: Recently a person had a what he thought was a Ford 427 steel crank. Picture with close up showing the ID stamping. :) It was a CAST 428 CJ crank. Not just the 1U number gave it away-also the casting seams were apparent. I have encountered countless misconceptions like this over the years. :? 8)

I privately did however send the seller the correct info about the crank and told him his 428CJ crank was still valuable. He thanked me over and over. It was a case of a daughter selling her deceased dad's stuff through a a non savy car friend just trying to help her out. 8)

One good one was the Boss 302 on E-bay listed as all org. and with an automatic in it. LOL!!

And of course Humprey Bogart called a Webley 45 revover an automatic in a movie. Tech adviser dropped the ball on that one!

Animal, yeah, you're right-- The message boards are where lots of misinformation (and outright intentional lies) get posted and then are interpreted as truth, 'cause the uniformed assume that every person who was part of this sport "back in the day" are honest and possess some sense of integrity, unfortunately that's not always the case (especially in the "nostalgia" drag racing genre)... Anyways, well, at least that Hollywood tech adviser did not cause Humphrey Bogart to lose his life with the film's gun debacle-- Several years ago, Brandon Lee, the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, was starring in a film called "The Crow", that was shooting in North Carolina, something went wrong with the so-called "blanks" being used in a gun during a scene-- resulting in Brandon losing his life... Friends of mine, a band who I toured with in the past (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult) performed in the film, they still receive lots of "mailbox money" from that appearance-- It's an extremely successful movie-- And it's most unfortunate that Brandon Lee got shot, killed, and is no longer with us to enjoy the film's success... Brandon's dad, Bruce, also died of unconventional circumstances and much too young in life... It's interesting to see the new "Green Hornet" movie getting so much attention-- Bruce Lee starred as "Kato" in the 1960's "Green Hornet" television series... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...
