Well gang, I went to my first ice drags last weekend. WOW !!! I couldn't believe any car could accelerate that quick on ice.
North central Wisconsin on a frozen lake, 1/8 mi. track with Tree, Rt's - ET's - MPH, & MOV,were announced. Timing tower broadcast on radio, so spectators along fence could hear. They plowed 4 lanes of competition, only two used at a time.
I went to the starting line after the race. There were ruts dug about 10 " deep from the big cars with "Nailly" tires.
(nailly's are tires covered with studs like a porcupine)
They had a 2 classes for "rubber tire" cars. (no studs) I wanted to enter, but had no helmet. A Caddy won that class.
They told me conditions were terrible, far too warm, water on ice causing front tires to hydroplane. Still we saw one nitrous Mustang go 117mph.
They run 6weeks each winter, from mid Jan to the end of Feb. (weather permitting of course). Only one car broke & had to be towed off track.
I plan to go back next winter. My Malibu's auto trans will take off in second gear if shifted manually, I'm thinkin that may be a good thing...??
