Today I was looking around Facebook. I thought about the original drummer for the Wildcats, Rodger "Bam Bam" Weiss. Iron man, great guy, incredibly talented musician, family.
Rodger moved to Austin 8 years ago and has been playing in a band there called Raging Saint. He comes from old-school metal but he jumped at the chance to play with the Wildcats when I was putting the deal together...I remember him running around the studio when he was a little boy and I was playing in his Uncle Dave's band, HardTimes in the 70s...when Rodger "grew up" he had returned to Houston after some years on the road with a band called Heaven in the 80s, and we hooked up and played together and with other bands from then on.
Anyway, I found Rodger on Facebook and this picture is on his front page...he still uses the "Cat" drumhead I made for him, which as you can see to your right, is the same graphic I made my avatar with when I joined DragList. I thought it was worth showing. Enjoy! I miss Rodger. We stay in touch; he's called me faithfully every month since he moved and he always comes over and visits when he's in town. He's good people. I'm just so damn proud of him.
Attached below the current picture of Rodger is a picture of the band playing the Saturday night headline slot on stage #2 at the 2001 Seabrook Music Festival. Firefall was playing the main stage that night. Right before we hit the stage, I had my face painted to match a joker in a deck of cards I had just been given. Of note is that off to the right, behind Kim, studiously playing a slide guitar is the future leader of the band Shakedown, Lynn Raggio. That cat logo gets around!
Cheers, WC1
