Thanks, guys. You're all too kind. World Tour Ts, huh? Let's see what happens over the next few days...
Been super busy over the past few days and didn't get a chance to update the travelogue... so here goes...
Picked up on Monday morning for the drive from Selinsgrove, PA, to Kent, Ohio, to sister Judy's place (and boyfriend Bill). Ever notice how all the cute girls have guys named Bill? Jungle Pam, Judy Pratt, Denise Pratt, etc... Can I suck up or what? I'm worse than John Force!

Anyway, pretty uneventful drive at first. Loaded up on hotel chow and hit the highway. Got about three miles down the road and noticed that my wedding ring was missing. Oops! U-turn time and back to the hotel. Got the key, and got back into the room before the service staff got there... found the ring under a piece of paper on the desk. Whew!
Back on the highway... all went well until mid Pennsylvania, when the same sort of gulley washer that shortened the Beaver Springs event hit route 80! We drove through a killer storm for most of the trip. The old Grand Caravan kept on rockin, though, as did Denise's ipod, playing through the car's speakers. That thing was worth every penny... tons of great songs I hadn't heard for a while came rolling out of the speakers with nary a second between songs... superb. Made it to sister Judy's house for homemade pizza, brats, and a nice reunion.
Tuesday morning was spent catching up a little at day job work on the laptop, and phoning tons of relatives. Got a hold of several and missed several others. Finally left a few voicemails and hit the highway in search of long lost brothers and sisters. I knew my younger brother Fred worked at an auto parts place the next town over from my sister (Ravenna, Ohio). So since that was closer than his house in Garrettsville, I drove through Ravenna, stopping at the major chains... None of them had heard of Fred, but we did stop at the A&W Root Beer drive in that I frequented as a teen and treated the kids to some real root beer floats. Great food and great service there... the calorie counter is going off the scale!
Finally decided to stop bothering parts counter persons and head towards Garrettsville to see if Fred or any of his kids were at home (didn't get an answer on their phone). Showed my kids my high school, my old house, where I worked (the former A&P Supermarket, etc.) Good old G-Ville... headed out Route 82 towards Windham to Fred's house... Got there and found everyone at home... spent a while with Fred, his wife Kathy, and Michael, Erik, and Samantha. They said they were planning to come over to Judy's that night. I got a chill up my spine as Judy's place barely fit her, her Bill, and then the four of us. I said, let's all go out to eat dinner somewhere instead. I called Judy, who lined us up at Rockne's in Kent.
After setting up a 6:30pm date to meet Judy, Bill, Fred and his family, and my sister Nancy at Rockne's, we headed out to nearby Mantua, Ohio, to meet up with... PERRY GREEN! Yes, our hemi powered gasser pal had PM'd me and asked if our schedule could include a little get together time and I was thrilled that it did! We called Perry on the cell and set up a date to meet him at his shop. Fifteen minutes later, we were there... Now get this, Perry lives in the most lush, beautiful, wooded area you can imagine. I kid you not, we counted not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR different rabbits just driving down his driveway! Oh, and throw in the weasel that ran in front of our car as a fifth wild animal, just for good measure!
Perry lives just ten minutes from where I went to middle school and he and I actually shared the same school, although he followed about seven years later. Anyway, we met Perry and his great son Steve and chatted for nearly an hour. Perry showed us his immaculate Green and Green Anglia and I delivered his Draglist stickers in person! We bid Perry and Steve farewell (as we did to the SAME FOUR RABBITS that we saw while going OUT of his driveway) and it was off to Kent.
Got to Rockne's and I have to say that I was super pleased with this place. They set up 14 spots for us and a cheerful guy named Matt took excellent care of all of us. I don't know if Rockne's is a chain or not, but if you get a chance to go to one, don't miss it. Just a laid back, fun place to eat with great food at GREAT PRICES! Let me put it this way: we fed 14 people including massive appetizers and beers for only 20 bucks more than we paid at Tedd's Landing for FOUR people!!! Any time you can get out the door with an appetizer, something from the bar, and a great meal for 10 bucks a head, you've got something! We then did Dairy Queen again with the whole gang (Nancy treated there), and then it was farewell for the night. It was a super day.
Wednesday morning started with a few more issues from work. I'm monitoring email, but just to ensure all goes well. It sure is as my super team is handling things great! By noon, it was time to head towards Painesville, Ohio, and my aunt Joanne's house. My aunt Joanne and uncle Dave always kept me during summers when I was a kid to help my mom out. We are super close. Cousin Eric was there with his incredibly beautiful wife Patty and their three great boys Eric, Jr, Jack, and Alec, as was cousin Susan and her daughter Selena. Cousin Chris’s two girls Brianna and Cassandra were there, too.
All the girls were chasing poor Jason around until cousin Kevin arrived with his wife Diane and their great kids Sheena and Sean. Sean was about Jason's age and the two guys went and found some silence to talk. No silence anywhere else, though, as the kids had a great time getting reacquainted and playing. We had swung by Garrettsville to grab my niece Samantha, so she and Emily joined in full force. Aunt Joanne could always lay out a major spread and this was no different. Chicken, spaghetti with meat sauce, rigatoni, green beans, salad, and two cakes (ha ha Randy). We slapped some candles in them because tomorrow is Denise's birthday! Shhhh it's a secret!
After fond goodbyes, we headed home down lonely Route 44, dropped Sammy off, said farewell to Fred and his family, and made our way back to Kent for another hour with Judy... everyone's off to bed now and I'm finally catching up on my message board duties! Tomorrow it's on the road at about 10am and off to Joliet... hopefully, we'll hit Chicago at about 3pm and avoid the heaviest part of rush hour. Then it's time to meet Bandit, Rocky, and anybody else who wants to come for dinner... I'd better get rolling on some sort of birthday present for Denise, too, or she may cancel my trip and send me home!

: More to come... bp
