Exactly, BP. There were no victims in this. They chose to be there. My sympathy is all but erased by that fact. I don't see any of it as tragic. Just a stupid waste that further damages the general perception of our sport. Sorry if this offends anyone, it's just the way I see it. WC1

Horrible

Postby animal jim » Mon Feb 18, 2008 12:11 pm

:? I cannot believe somebody was not watching their backs :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: :?: :?: :?: :?:

A car on each side of lane with flashers and people with flashlights. Cones etc. ?????

When I was a young snot racing on narrow 2 lane blacktop county roads , drunk 1/2 the time, we were smart enough to watch for traffic!!! 8) :roll:

I have seen films from Europe where they baracade the lanes and race and then pick up the barracades. :o
It has been quite a ride!

It was crazy. I obviously feel very bad for the loss of life. What got me was the relatives on the tube looking to place blame everywhere except on the folks themselves. Guess it's human nature. I heard that the cops are not even looking for the racers anymore and the guy in the white car won't be charged. I guess if it is somehow determined that he was driving with his lights off, that may change things, but otherwise, it does not look as if any charges are forthcoming. bp

I also feel terrible for the loss of life. My post was angry and insensitive to the people who were hurt and their families. I apologize, and I offer prayers for their souls. They all made a big mistake. My son Kyle was almost killed by a drunk driver on a 2-lane blacktop in 1998 while he and I were standing in front of my van at dusk on Dairy Ashford Road; we had just been hit by a guy who ran a stop sign. We were standing in the road, (that was the mistake) getting his information...under a street light, both cars with their headlights and emergency flashers on, traffic backing up behind us, and here she comes, at close to 60 mph, right into us. At the last second, she veered away and went into the 6-foot-deep ditch, slid 300 feet sideways in it, and came to a stop with the front end of her car stuck up in the air hanging over the road. She missed hitting Kyle by a few inches, and to this day, my heart goes up in my throat when I remember it. The folks last weekend weren't so lucky. I'm sorry. I hate loss of life, the damage it does to our sport, and the stupidity continues. WC1

I think both letters are good. Street racing is street racing not drag racing. Problem can't be solved if it is incorrectly labeled. We keep losing tracks here in So Cal. Tracks are the answer but not the complete answer. They need more street racing events at dragstrips. If I'm not mistaken, their are a few tracks in several directions of were this happen, why were they on the street. Are there not enough street race events at these tracks? Are they too far? When there is place to drag race street racing goes down, but when there is a place to race just like on the street, street racing is almost eliminated. Street racing is not drag racing nor is drag racing street racing even though it evolved from street racing.

to clear this up: my boy died from the fact of the police chasing the crown victoria, the kid ran thru the crowd at about 75 mph, the race had already taking place and the cars had gone thru, it was just like at any other race, when at the starting line people gather and once the cars leave the line, people gather to the center to see the cars making the pass, well from behind here comes the crown vic with no head lights and thru the crowd..... NOW THE ####ING COPS DONT WANNA TELL THE TRUTH BECAUSE OF THE " NO CHASE LAW." RIP "OTTIS & SPORT"

r.i.p. to all that left us early.
you guys have to get the truth out
there.. i know people are going to be scared to
talk .(not wanting to implicate themselves at the scene).
but a crowd of people could have just as easily been there tring to help out in a simple auto accident too.
you guys have dozens of witnesses vs a driver
and a pair of cops..dam this is ugly.

well i saw this in the paper here in NJ today and i smell cover up. reason is there is too many different statements from the cops and that car looks to me like a police car. white and the blue vinyl seat in the back blue interior i have the same thing. i think internal affairs should get in on this one and they keep saying because of drag racing. hey there could of been a parade going on what the hell is the difference. my opinion from what i read and of course this is a speculation i think the race went off this under cover cop know and was hiding and he went to chace the cars with no head light and i bet a very very dark road.. and did not realize that people would of been in the road and tragedy happened! that's what i think happened and the cops are playing dumb

I hope they figure it out. The undercover thing does make sence but who knows. Its sad that this happened and I hope they get to the bottom of this. I dont think it is right that the driver has no charges pending and they want to find the racers.

I dont know if there was any truth to it but apparently there was a video out there that....

"allegedly shows the white crown victoria being chased by police shortly before the crash. The person allegedly showed the tape to police and it was confiscated on the scene..... This will hold some important clues as to if the white crown victoria was being chased and if the police from the next county stopped the pursuit at the county line."

there was a video online on youtube but it is now gone

Tonight I was watching ABC7 news and this story came on. They called the incident drag racing several times. I usually don't get too fired up over T.V. news stories but this one just got under my skin. So I threw this letter together and sent it to them. Probably won't make a difference, but i fell better........ :oops: :twisted:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was watching the news tonight a saw your story on the 8 people killed in an ILLEGAL STREET RACING" incident. I see the story on the net has the information right, but the T.V. newscast mistakingly call this "DRAG RACING" several times during the segment. Drag racing is ONLY done on a sanctioned drag strip. Any racing done anywhere other than a sanctioned drag strip is "ILLEGAL STREET RACING" and should NEVER EVER be associated with "LEGAL DRAG RACING". DRAG STRIPS are a legal alternative to Illegal street racing. Without drag strips illegal street racing would increase. It's very important the general public understands that DRAG RACING(Legal) and STREET RACING (Illegal) are two very different things.
Thank You.
I have picked on Peoria, IL. media about calling "Illegal Racing" "Drag Racing " A journalist I know at Peoria Journal Star informed me that they have to write it up as such because that is the way the law is written in the ILLinois Rules of the Road and the local and state prosocuters presents any kind of illegal racing as "Drag Racing".
If you look in Illinois Rules Of The road handbook It is in there and sometimes one of the questions on the driver lic. test.
I have written to State about using this term. To no avail.
Postby animal jim » Tue Feb 19, 2008 6:57 am
:shock: This is first I heard about police chase and Crown Vic. with no lights on and the cover up :shock: :x That explains a lot!!!! :shock:
I could go into a a tyrate about many cover ups by police and people of authority in general in my neck of the woods. :x :cry: :evil: I have witnessed and even been a victim of such in my 67 years on this planet :!: :shock:
That is why I never totally trust authority. :roll: :x
