:?: Randy, after thinking about the safety shoe deal with the body up, pole in place.. what is new in the rear hinge area. I have read in the recent past about the rear body release deal but what about any improvements if any about keeping the body square to the chassis (running or not) thru the arc of raising or lowering/latching etc. wind, old guy that gets a cramp, young guy not paying attention whilst' watching a back up babe in the other lane :D .. are there now bushings or something to take up all that slop that i remember from years ago or is still a basic sloppy metal to metal loose meat sandwich? I know it all looks smooth on tv, and the body crew person practices his/her role many times, just curious

Doc, it is pretty much the same old deal as from way back when. Of course the hinges and tree areas are a better fit and finish. The body needs to move around to be able to settle on the chassis time after time. It all moves and flexes so the chassis can work and things stay hooked together on the run. How square it goes up and down, is still dependent on a guy who cares doing the raising and lowering.

8) yea, great point on the body needing some wiggle room even when down and latched, might have been having a tin1 induced flashback when i posted the question around midnite :D .... on my old econoheap there was never a problem as there was nothing to get the body hung on and with the body down i could just start the heap like a Geo metro in the lanes  i guess with the new teams going together etc. i just wanted to bring up a reminder that bad things can and have happened before a car even gets to the stage beams

Doc,

Very good point. These things are extremely dangerous when lowering the body with a crew guy right in front of the car. It takes a guy/girl who knows what they are doing, and can handle the body with ease as they lower or raise it.

Thanks for bringing that up 8)

Good points by all. The rule is there has to be 2 1/2 inches clearance where the hat and blower come through the body. Gives a little wiggle room, but not huge amounts. One does well, two it gets real hairy real fast. Down straight in one motion usually works well.
