ELVES AND DWARVES AND MEN By Bill McAteer 2003
A time once was the air was clear
the seasons had no end
beast and fowl were abundant here
before Elves and Dwarves and Men
Mountains rose up endlessly
rivers were their friends
grass and trees grew happily
before Elves and Dwarves and Men
Unshod feet criss crossed the land
tough times seemed simpler then
natural bridges filled the span
In days of Elves and Dwarves and Men
Many battles among themselves
together wars were fought as friends
legends filled the books on shelves
of Elves and Dwarves and Men
Today we have wild life preserves
places to keep the beasts fenced in
its a fate far less than they deserve
after Elves and Dwarves and Men
Now the air is foul and hard to breathe
technologies have no end
wonder what the results would be
If we returned to days of Elves and Dwarves and Men

Here's one I wrote a while back.
FREEZE THE HEAD 1988 by John R. Bockelman
I done went and run myself down
And now I got no more energy
To do whatever it is that I do
And now it’s all a-comin’ back on me
Now all my friends are standin’ here
And some of my family too...
I got just one more thing before I hit the big bang
That I have to ask of you, oh please just...
Freeze the head
And set my body free
Freeze the head
Yeah, you won’t get rid of me, come on now...
Freeze the head
To help society
Freeze the head
Because I want to live eternally
I been a-thinkin’ all my smokin’ and a-drinkin’
Used to make me feel so fine
But now my eyes they are a-blinkin’ and my boat it is a-sinkin’
And I’m gonna have to toe the line
But I done found me a new way
To get me outta this mess...
Let the doctors hold a meetin’ when my heart it stops a-beatin’
And then let ‘em all come to see me when they…
Freeze the head
And give the rest to my ex-wife
Freeze the head
Yeah, because I want a new lease on life, come on now...
Freeze the head
Just like a block of cheese
Freeze the head
Oh, baby, will miracles never cease?
Well, I lived out all the ethics of the younger generation
Like I was the king of rock n’ roll
But now I’m layin’ in the sack n’ I want to take it all back
Don’t want to die before I get too old
Here come that ol’ grim reaper,
And he’s swingin’ that scythe at me…
Y’know a man’s occupation is to use his reputation
To increase the population if you want a demonstration then just…
Freeze the head
And hook it back up another day
Freeze the head
Yeah, you can just throw the rest away, for now, anyway...
Freeze the head
And put it where the sun don’t shine
Freeze the head
And everything is gonna work out fine, come on now...
Freeze the head
I swear I’m gonna pay you all back in spades
Freeze the head
Yeah, just turn the light off and pull the shades, come on now..
Freeze the head
Won’t ya give me peace of mind
Freeze the head
B-b-b-b-because I don’t want to die, no no no
Cheers, WC1

1st. Where was i when you needed a friend ? I could not be found. Where was i when you started to cry? I was highway bound. And now you are saying goodbye , Why are you saying goodbye ? 2nd. What did i do when you said i love you ? I'd just look away....... What did i do when you begged me to stay ? I let that whiskey river take me far away..And now you are saying goodbye, Why are you saying goodbye ? chorus : Now that you are leavin' i feel so sad inside, To much a fool to relize you weren't satisfied, Now that you've left me i feel so all alone, please girl won't you let me bring you back home..... 3rd. I couldn't see the hurting in your smile cause i'd just looked away.... When you needed me to hold you tight, save it for the next rainy day.. and now you are saying goodbye, why are you saying goodbye? REPEAT CHORUS..... 4TH. Ican't sleep at night without you by my side, you're warmth no longer mine to feel.... I hurt you one to many and you found somebody new, you're love was his to steal, you're love was his to steal.... And now you are saying goodbye, Why are you saying goodbye? ..................JS 1980

				JONESBURG SWEET
  Jonesburg
  Sweet Jonesburg
Crystal moon scratchin' up against a row of windbreak trees
Their icy silhouettes carve into the November freeze
Women in the kitchen, turkey on slow heat
Grandma Red saintly stirs cinnamon into the mincemeat
  Jonesburg, Sweet Jonesburg
In flannel and overalls beside a German Sheppard or two
Grandpa's gravel baritone as he holds a string bean can spittoon says,
"Never buy on credit. Never grow old"
His hands seem tough as rail iron then a seasoned story unfolds
 Jonesburg Sweet Jonesburg
The hot stove league's in full session, in the basement a circle of men
"Brock for Conigliaro? or at least for what he could have been"
Slam goes the side porch door,Cousins wearin' out the hinge
Hood propped up on a Plymouth Valiant, Seven uncles peerin' in
 Jonesburg, Sweet Jonesburg
John Sanders 2007
