Scott was a great" Old School" racer and I mean that as a huge compliment.
Sad day for the sport and the Kalitta family.

Just saw Scott's run on TV on all of the news stations. The track could have been a mile long and it would not have made a difference. It doesn't look like he lifted. Never seen a fire lasts that long. Which brings to my mind that he was either badly burned and could not concentrate or was unconscious from the fire or fumes. I hope that they check over everything concerning this accident. Another sad day in racing.
RIP Scott and my condolences to your family.

He hit the crane that's in the right lane beyond the barrier wall. His throttle somehow, from my understanding (I was told from a very reliable source), got hung open like it did in Phoenix. I don't know any other details than that. But I would sure like to know why the crane is Still in the right lane at the end of the track. TV or not, I wouldn't want to be sitting in that thing with Nitro cars blasting at 300 mph plus towards me. Tony Pedregon said it best when he & Cruz were interviewed.

Take care everyone and be safe, it's going to be a tough day for racing today.

Danny called and told me about this this morning. My condolences to Scott's family and friends. As others have said on this thread, Scott was truly one of the "old guy" racers although he was second generation. Mike Dunn also comes to mind in that regard. They followed their dads by playing by the old rules. That is, driving was the number one job with PR playing a distant second. For many young drivers, that balance seems more like 50/50. Farewell, Scott. bp
