I saw him race in the late 80s, he was a great driver, a fierce competitor, fearless and aggressive, and his cars were always absolutely beautiful examples of the potential show quality of a funny car. I am sorry to hear his life ended this way. God Bless the family and rest in peace, Flash Gordon Mineo. WC1

Gordon won one of the first funny car races I ever saw -- the Coke Cavalcade race at Thompson, Ohio, in 75 or 76. He beat the Sundance Monza in the final. Tough racer. bp

I havent monitored this forum in a while, and when I do see former So-Cal great Gordon Mineo having passed away. I remember when he first drove for Tom Sturm then ventured off to the Chevy powerd Firebird sponsored by Justice Bros. His famous poster referenced above is a classic, along with so many others from that era of exploding 392's and fireburnouts.

Welcome back, Bill, but sorry you head to return to this news. Gordon was a solid part of the scene back then, a recurring character without whom the SoCal funny car experience would have been slightly less cool. bp
