Well it is race car night again. Every Wed we {the whole team} meets for dinner and a night of working on the car. We do this every Wed night. We have done this for the past few years as it lets everybody just keep the same night open every week. It really works pretty well.

Scott and I spend a number of nights out working on the car that the other guys on the team don't come out for. I am always busy with the maintenance on the fuel system. Changing, checking, cleaning etc. I also do the leak downs on the engine on one of the off nights after a race. I have given up doing the valves. I still run them if we run short of time, but mostly I let the boys take care of them.

Scott spends his time cleaning, building brkts, just checking and keeping an eye on everything. Organizing parts and tools so we have what we need to take to the track.

The boys after every race pull the pan, change oil, check the main and rod bearings. Run the valves and do a general clean-up on all components.

We always spend a portion of the night before we leave to go racing to go "nutting and bolting". This is where we each grab a few wrenches and we work the car over from front to back and check every single bolt on the car. We torque everything, wheels etc. Check the car for leaks, cracks in the frame, anything that may have come loose.

I also do the body maintenance and any paintwork that needs done. I check over the drivers area, to make sure everything works and is tight and clean.

Then we get to go PLAY!!! :D

Check out this neat little part. I got it from Hadford Racing. It goes on the side of your injector and takes the place of the turnbuckle. This keeps you from having to hold onto 2-wrenches as you are setting the barrel valve. :)

It moves 1-click at a time so it is very precise!! I can't wait to try it.

Thanks for the updates, Randy. How many races have been lost over the years because the crews did not undergo such procedures. I always hate to hear about teams losing because of a two dollar part. No way to eliminate that occurrence, but the maintenance you and your team undergo certainly cuts down on it. Just another aspect of being a professional team that's fully ready to meet their obligations when the promoter calls. bp

Thanks guys,,,We feel like we live and die by our Completed Runs ratio. If a promoter calls us, and books us in. He knows we are a well organized group with good equipment and we will be able to make the runs for the fans.

I don't think anyone is more upset by not making a scheduled run than our team because something broke or malfunctioned. We do a lot of preventive maintainance to protect our reputation. We cyl parts out that we think may be near their life cycle. We carry a ton of spare parts in the trailer. We usually buy an extra of whatever part we order. If we need two of something we will buy 3 so we have the spares on hand.

Randy, I joke around a lot with you .. BUT .. I do respect you for what I've seen you accomplish. You and your group remind me of how racing use to be .. not all the commercialism (circus) or I'm better then you attitude. Can I pat you on the back or should I just say "I LOVE YOU, YOU LOVE ME"
