What's on the Jukebox?

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Hey, guys. Let me tell ya a little about Danny White. Not only does he keep the drag lists, stories, and photos humming, he can talk music with the BEST of them! In fact, I have a Citykings CD on its way to Danny... bp

Yes, I've seen Bugs a few times, Danny. One of the greatest guitar players in Texas. I saw him with his own band but in the early 70s I saw him with Nitzinger here in Houston opening for Freddy King. He came out and sat in with Freddy and they tore the place down. I have a couple of Bugs' albums and that guy plays perfect, live. No studio patches or overdubs or re-takes. He just walks out and does it. Last time I saw him was quite a while ago, but I hear he's still out there doing it...I met Derek when he was playing in Lou Ann's Band with Tommy Shannon on bass. I was playing bass for Big City at the time and we were opening for Lou Ann at Rockefeller's. Derek was a super-nice guy and he asked me about my equipment and how I had my amp set for slide (I switched over to slide guitar for one song) and when he came out and played with Lou Ann, I didn't know he was the guy I'd just talked to...he was incredible...Tommy Shannon was my biggest bass influence and I got to meet him that night, too. He's the best blues/rock bass player I ever heard. Here's a picture taken that night during Big City's set. I'm playing bass and Sam Massey is up front doing his Howlin' Wolf thing. Saw Sam the other day. He's still a character, but a very talented character. Cheers, WC1

Easy Bill, too much bragging will effect the ego.....the wife says I already hard to live with. Can't wait for the CD.

Widcat,

Bugs with Nitzinger, that was group that was supposed to be big and wasn't. I seen him twice and tell others to see him. I also seen Mouse Weiss who used to be in a group with Bugs, Mouse and the Traps. One hit wonder in the Southwest. Buggest hit song to come from Tyler save for Judie in Disguise. LOL

Ever heard of David Grissom, I like him alot. Had to pull out the killer version he and Jack Ingram did of Waylon's "Only Daddy Who Will Walk the Line" the day Waylon died. killer reverb on the guitar by Grissom.

Never saw Mouse, but they had a great band...I felt lucky to see Nitzinger that night. They were smokin'. I think they had Linda Waring on drums with them. She and I have mutual friends and we met and hung out in the mid-80s here in Houston when she was playing with Miss Molly and the Passions. Linda's rock-solid. She paid a lot of dues. Can't say I could quickly identify David Grissom or the song you metnioned but if you say the guy can play, I believe you...me and Miss Debby saw Willie here at the rodeo 2 days after Waylon died a few years ago. He was totally uninspired. He played his stuff but he was just going through the motions to fulfill the committment. Hope you like "Four Lifetimes"! Cheers, WC1
