Just cause I need a break from real work. Over the Winter I decided to use one of those gaskets with a screen inbeded in it under the FI hat, and above the Supercharger.
It goes, supercharger, gasket with open center, supercharger restraint with an open center, gasket with screen in the center, then the FI hat mounts on top of this.
Last year when the nut came off the Supercharger and went thru the engine, the now loose hat sucked the gaskets in creating an air leak, hi-idle situation. I took it apart at the track, and used silicon to seal everything back up. It was fine for the rest of the year.
So when I cleaned everything up at the end of the year, I removed all the gaskets and silicon. When I re-installed this year I put it together with just gaskets, no silicon to make it easier if I needed to take it apart later.
It was fine on the first couple of start-ups. Then we ran low on fuel and the engine idled up pretty high. We shut it off and put some more fuel with Nitro in it. It idled really high. Scott was outside of the car and I was in my office {the cockpit}. He tried moving the idle stops to lower it, no success. Earlier against what I had told him he had raised the idle.
We finished setting the timing and I wacked it a couple of times, then shut it off. Pushed back into the raceshop. The guys did the service and ran the valves while I got out the leak down tester. I checked the barrel, it was about right. Humm, ok then check the idle bypass. Same Humm, it is working also. Check the pump loop, nope it is just where I set it.
Well, it isn't getting eough fuel or it is getting to much air. I had already reset the blade adj. So only enters the injector in the front butterflys,,,,,,or does it. I killed the lights in the shop, held a light up to the side of the injector,,bingo!! It was sucking air down the sides.
I took the hat off, and saw where the gaskets has sucked in. I flat-edged the supercharger top, slightly less than flat, checked the hat, also slightly less than flat. In racecar speak, two slightly's equal 1-too high an idle in your racecar.
I re-installed with a bead of silicon between each part. Now no light coming thru,,,problem solved!
