I'm not a 100% sure...but I "think" the choice of a turbo (or a blower or nitrous) for motorvation deems it Mandatory for a steel firewall in a door car. Those Cave cover'd pipe racks can get away with all kindsa stuff

Yer' right Billy. It's the difference between wearing an expensive suit or a really expensive suit.

yeah - you can run an aluminum wall - just have to wear the sub-artic version snow suit.

I started on the hinges but then decided I better get the front end straight first or the hinges would be wrong. (The front end is a mess) The nose didn't even come close to fitting, so I trimmed the opening & made cuts where I had to, to get it to match up
I used some scrap aluminum from an old sign to get the nose in the right place.
Glassed the blank spaces between the gussets. After it sets up I'll unscrew the gussets & finish the fiberglass, a job I'm just itching to get done. lol

Looking good. Wow. I can't believe you had to split that front end but it looks like you have a good plan to make it whole again. bp

BP, I couldn't believe how far off it was. Got it pretty close now & the header & valance are a lot more stable now. Got the aluminum patches & screws out, put a layer over those areas & followed it up with a layer of cloth to reinforce it. Still needs 1 more layer of mat, but I'll do that when I glass in the tree. The front end needs a bunch of work. I've considered buying another one & pitching this one. This was the only company that offered an RS front end at the time, there are other RS pieces (much better quality) out there now.

I guess I've committed to saving this one now. I had them delete the nose because I already had this one. I'm glad I did now, because the nose piece seems to be very nice. Helps dial in the specs having that to work from.

Landlord, I am itching to see that thing get glassed up as well. It is surprising how the fiberglass companies get by with close enough so often.

No glass on the outside yet but the grill surround fits. (ya' I know, wrong Z-28 emblem on the grill, it's what it came with) Got a nice shinny NOS one in the box that IS the right year.
Back to working on the hinge & tree stuff for now. I'll leave the glass work for cooler weather.
