It seems like every single time I'd check in on the "March Meet" this past weekend, there would be downtime due to yet another oil down... That said, with today's blog I address the subject that seems to be way too "sensitive" for many of my more squeamish press colleagues to openly discuss-- Yeah, I'm straight talkin' 'bout oil downs-- and the responsibilities of crew members and drivers to do everything humanly possible to avoid them... Downtime ruins races, discourages novice spectators from ever coming back to the track, it's just a bad scene, baby!... In today's blog I do my part to try to bring attention to the problem of oil downs, and while I admit that they're not always avoidable, in many cases they are, and I give crew members and drivers the real skinny on how they can reduce the frequency of them... Even if you're a crew member not making the "big bucks", and your only compensation for the weekend are barbecue burgers and a pat on the back, it's still imperative that you take your responsibilities very seriously, and do everything in your power to ensure you're sending your driver down the strip in a ride that's as safe as it can possibly be-- and leak free...

... And for you drivers, if you suspect your car has broke and could possibly be leaking fluids, pull safely off to the side of the track and get out of the main groove. This will make cleaning up your car's mess a lot easier and less time consuming...

With gas prices already at the highest on record for this time of year, the threat of $5.00 per gallon come this Spring & Summer has me concerned... I don't want to see racers and race fans staying home from the track 'cause they don't have enough money in their budget to gas up at the pump... I simply do not find it acceptable for our 2012 drag racing season to suffer because of the price gauging at the neighborhood filling station... I talk hard facts and my solution for making it possible to keep this sport on the road to financial recovery-- And yes, it's gonna take some sacrificing, but isn't our beloved sport worth it??-- You're darn right it is!!... Around E'Town Eddie Krawiec is a familiar face... Occasionally he steps into the shoes of track management when he's not busy on the road racing Pro Stock Motorcycles... All of us from 'round here are mighty proud of his accomplishments... The current NHRA P/S Bike champ just added yet another major accomplishment to his impressive resume... Eddie was the first P/S bike rider to penetrate the 200 mph mark during a recent Georgia Motorsports Park testing session... Yes, Zappy, you are absolutely correct... I do make a point of stating in my blog that it was indeed a "test" session and it's an "unofficial" record... Should be interesting to see what sort of two-wheeled wonderment transpires at Gainesville... Today is Feedback Friday... I publish readers reactions to my most recent blogs, whether they agree or disagree with my take on things, I spill the real skinny... The blog that generated the most reader email was my tips to drivers and crew members to avoid dangerous and time consuming oil downs... Veteran car owners and crew members show their appreciation for my informing some possible "wet behind the ears" crew people on the finer points of a crew person's responsibilities... Happy Birthday to Johnny Kelly, ultra-talented drummer for Type O Negative, Danzig, and A Pale Horse Named Death. Also a hardcore Mopar guy, seen here at E'Town with his sweet '70 Super Bee that he occasionally races at the strip. We (Big Stick) are glad to have Johnny playing guest drums on our "Hoochie Express" song that we're going to be releasing in 2012. Happy Birthday!!...

I firmly believe that it's my job and responsibility to "TELL IT LIKE IT IS" to the drag racing community... Somebody needs to speak up and tell the truth, drag racers and fans deserve that much...

I'm very thankful for all my many staunch supporters like yourself, people who've actually been a real part of drag racing for decades, folks who know that reporting the truth, and not bowing to the "smoke and mirrors" tactics that we so often see on the drag racing internet, really is the honest and "high road" approach to journalism-- And it's proving to be the approach that a majority of the drag racing community genuinely appreciates most-- Hence my ever growing faithful blog readership... And while I admit to still receiving gastric-induced grief from blowhard sexist naysayers who think a gal's place isn't reporting and offering opinions on drag racing, the smart money knows that no matter what the gender, when a journalist gives people the TRUTH and "REAL SKINNY", with some REAL HEART thrown in for good measure, it's a formula for success... Even back when I first embarked on my drag racing journalism career, back during my so-called controversial "jetsetter" period, I knew that combining "Tell it Like It Is" journalism savvy with REAL HEART was the way to go... I still stick firmly by that policy today, even when discussing my take on the upcoming "Snake" & "Mongoose" movie...
