Tell me about your kids...

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Hi gang. Jason got a 2003 Honda Civic 5 speed tonight. I began teaching him the 5 speed Accord back when he first started, but he's been driving automatics since then. Got to go out and practice tomorrow! bp

That's GREAT, BP! He's a leg up on most folks his age having a 5-speed...all they'll know is put it in drive and go...mastering a clutch is learning an art these days, although 90% of us learned on clutch cars with 3 on the column...that knowledge also will come in handy some day when he decides to do some drag racing (on a track, of course)...very cool deal, Jason deserves it! Cheers, WC1

Thanks, gang. They had a nice graduation ceremony tonight. This was the first graduating class for this big new Science and Technology high school. Both Jason and Emily (and most of the kids that go there) had to apply and interview to go. It was a terrific opportunity and for Jason to be part of the first graduating class was cool. He studied Cisco Routing, which is just one of the dozens of career paths that they prepare kids for.

The ceremony began at 7pm and was PACKED... I mean SRO and the place is huge. Since it was such a big deal, all the school board, county commissioners, and other dignitaries were there. They had a pre-graduation soiree with all those VIPs. Emily and her quartet were asked to perform for that. So we dropped her off at 4pm. Since we knew the place was going to get super packed, we just stayed there. Denise and her mom fixed up a nice tail gate lunch. We popped open the back of the minivan, set up the chairs, and enjoyed. It was Denise and me, her parents Don and Delma, and my old friend Dennis Grapper, who was on the Nimitz with me, was my best man, and has been a great uncle to both kids from literally day one. (Jason drove separately).

After the ceremony, we dropped Jason off at his car and then headed back to the house. To our surprise, my brother Tim had come down. We had a nice visit. Jason beat us home and visited with Tim, but then only stayed for a few minutes more because the local community college is putting on a graduation celebration tonight (no booze) for all the kids in the county. He drove a few pals to that and I expect him back at about 3am.

He and I spent the morning at the local AA baseball team stadium, using their ample parking lot as a practice ground for Jason to get the hang of driving a five speed again after being spoiled for two years with an automatic! He got the hang of it great...

It was a nice day and a great reason to take a day off work! Back to the grind tomorrow... bp
