Another "vinyl" day. Listening to some old 45's this AM. First one: The Spencer Davis Group: "Somebody Help Me" / "Stevie's Blues" from March 1966. I think that was one of the first Spencer Davis Group records I ever bought. Price tag is still on the sleeve($1.49) - that was a lot of money back then considering I was only getting $90 a week for 40 hours pumping gas and doing oil changes / grease jobs.

That's probably one job that the paycheck didn't change much in the past 40 years. God, is it really 40 years? Remembering stuff like this makes me feel really old.

Last night I did "Gimme Some Lovin'" with Shakedown. We stretch it out to include a guitar solo and bring it up to 3 verses, but the problem is that Steve Winwood more often than not, had one verse's worth of lyrics and that's it. He repeats the lyrics almost verbatim in the second verse. So I'm singing 3 verses of nearly identical lyrics. But we get that organ riff out there and the big beat thing going on and it works. I also have to switch the keyboard from organ to piano and back again 8 times during the song. Heck, it's worth it, though. Folks like the tune.

cool deal WC.. my Korg has a foot switch to go from b-3 type sound to piano but i'm not good enough to try Winwood stuff Honky-tonk is a favorite of dads.... sure would like to get a cassette of you guys doing it for the radio in the 50 ford.. me and John the Pumber worked it up years ago for a family aniversary gig years ago... it was cool watching mom and dad and the aunts and uncles do that stroll kind of group dance where you go up through the lane with people swaying on both sides waiting their turn to show some moves....

Stroll cool, Doc...Hully Gully...Locomotion...Watusi...Jerk...Twist...The Dog...saw it all Friday night when the Whiskey Saints played at 5th Street...but the topper of 'em all was when Lanis went out into the crowd of dancing ladies and did the Funky Chicken. They climbed all over him...remember Billy "White Shoes" Johnson's end-zone dance back in the 70s? He was kinda doing a version of the Funky Chicken...Lanis has it down. He does it in such a way that the ladies go crazy when he does that. He is an amazing performer...I will see about getting a live Whiskey Saints recording. I know Lanis' wife DVD'd the whole show...I'll ask her about that..."Honky Tonk" got done in the center section of "Honky Tonk Blues" by Hank Williams. James made little medleys out of songs like that...it is so cool the way this band puts stuff together. "Memphis"...I sing the Chuck Berry song and in the middle, James plays the Lonnie Mack instrumental of that song then we go back to the vocal part. Let's hear "Folsom Prison Blues" and some Fats Domino..."Blue Monday"...Life is good...WC1
