I did the exact same thing to the small block I used to have, so I know that feeling you described. The hair on the back of my neck stands up when I hear something like that happening.

Sorry to hear that. I guess the silver lining is it's near the end of the season, but it's a 'spensive silver lining.

Strange noises are never fun to hear comiing from the engine bay, Perry.....We feel your pain in that respect 
.......Glad you got the shake issue sorted out...now you have (unfortunately 
) plenty of time to get the launch direction figgered out as well.......Good Luck with it.....and "hopefully" it's a Mild winter, so you won't have to suffer cold tootsies going back and forth to the shop

Thompson is having another gasser meet in a couple of weeks. Apparantly they had so much fun they want to do it 2x a year now. I don't know, will Ohio support 3 nostalgia events a year? Works for me 
I haven't touched the car -just rolled it out of the trailer and let her sit. I figured I better work on the other hundred things that haven't been done through the summer. Plus it would be nice to actually clean up the shop before I scatter more peices all over (BP saw the mess... )

ok....
Got enough wood cut and split to last me most of the way through the winter. Have the plow truck fuel tank repaired so I don't have to put gas in it every time I need it. Cleaned out the shop for the first time in 3 years.
It only took me 2 months, but now I'm ready to work on the car!
Before I started tearing it apart I put it up on the scales. Total weight of the car came out to 2400lbs without me in it. Remember how the drivers side front sits low? Well there's 60lb more weight on that corner than the passenger side front - no wonder it sits low. Plus the opposite rear corner (pass rear) is the lighter rear corner. Basically, the drivers side of the car is heavier, and the front is a bunch heavier. It looks like I've got chassis geometry to cogitate this winter...
Started taking the engine out of it last night. Pulled the headers and diaper off of it and got a flashlight to peer into the hole with. The rod journal on the crank is black and ugly - so it looks like it was a bearing that caused the carnage.
Got looking at the hole in the block and followed the crack leading from the top of the hole all the way up the side of the block to somewhere under head... Looks like this block will make a nice end table!
If anyone knows of a decent Donovan block for sale, let me know - I'm going to need one.
