Don, the Firebird looks VERY similar to the 69 Mustang I cut out over this past weekend (its to be a 'project' for my buddy Tim...light as possible, crazy wicked small block ) ...That is a dirty job

I am sooo glad to have the old girl back home.... The guy I gave it to just parked it under a bunch of spruce trees for 5 years. Back then I had rebuilt the entire front subframe and suspension, steering, brakes and put in solid body mounts.

So now the work starts - gathering parts, welding, tinwork, lexan, bodywork, etc. We already have the roll cage and rear frame and all the wheels and tires and rearend, suspension and everything from the flex plate to the tires. The worst part is all this stuff was already mocked up in this car 5 years ago.

As for being light it has fiberglass fenders and about all that's left of the doors and trunklid are the skins, hinges and latches. But there's a 12 point cage and heavy old me going in there so the lighter the better LOL. Engine is basically a 1970 LT1 shortblock with a set of #461 heads and a serious Crane flat tappet. We have a TH350, 4800 stall API convertor, 12 bolt 5:38 gears with 14.5X33 tires.

I will try to document the rescue operation as we go - right now I'm just happy to have it home again.

Found a complete rear frame from a 2003 S-10 for only $150 so it got me to thinking it could be narrowed easily to fit the Firebird with my 12 bolt rear and 14.5X33s. Crossmembers could either be narrowed or replaced, then with some cutting, welding, a set of slapper bars, four new U-bolts and it could be a rolling chassis very quickly(even the shocks are fairly new). Does anyone know if the brakes, backing plates and drums will fit my early Nova 12 bolt? Seems to me like there's not a whole lot of engineering or geometry checking required here since GM did it all at the factory. Is this the cheapest and maybe quickest way for me to get started or is it a stupid idea? What do you think? Worst case scenario would be that I'd have an S-10 frame for sale for $150 LOL. Still haven't tracked down the original owner/builder of Len's Corvette but now I've got a little more info to aid in the search. While looking through the weather station manual this AM I found a time card from Sunshine Dragstrip in Florida. Found another couple of mangled time cards in the bottom of the box and they also had the #4 and the Automotive Eng. name on them. Have any of you been at Sunshine Dragstrip anytime in late 2006? If so do you remember this car?

Don, I don't have any info on this car, but I HAVE seen it....at US 19 Dragway in Albany GA....It was there for a BIG Money bracket race....Hopefully Cat's info will aid ya
