The Night Shift

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Still waiting. No problem. Randolph said I can come back Monday if I need to. He's cool with that because he's going to be doing a month-long gig at Mr. Grantham's house. I know Mr. Grantham and he's a great guy and he'll pay Rand in full and on time. He also is a funny fellow and he likes to joke with me about me being a white guy working for a black guy, which to tell you the truth I never gave much thought to, but in the Hood, it's something of a rarity...but we hang out and talk and have a good time and that's the best part of the whole experience at the Grantham house.

Last night, I took the songwriting class over to Akbar's storeroom and the Whiskey Saints were set up and practicing in there. I played a couple of songs with them that I wrote and James did 4 of his originals, which were excellent, and he also gave them a talk about how he writes songs and how it all gets put together. James is the ph.D; he's VP of College of the Mainland, and he's also a great guitarist with country, blues and jazz dominating his style. Great guy. The class loved him. Got back to the classroom at around 8:35 and Sara had more lyrics for me to review. I got her to sing her first song to me again, and she did...this time I found a unique chord progression for the second half of it. During class, she did charcoal and pastel portraits of me and one of the guys in the class. She has a TON of talent. Actually more than everybody in that class put together...I told her one of these days I want to talk to her parents and see if I could arrange a recording session for her after working up the songs she wrote. They are GREAT, beautiful songs, and I can hear music going on behind what she's singing to me. I'll invite her folks to supervise us, or they can just allow it. I have kids, too. I got Bill interested; he has an 8-track studio at him and Kathleen's house. There are a few folks in there that have songwriting ideas and potential, but she stands out head and shoulders above the rest of them. It'd be cool if she could meet Kyle. I'd rather have her around than some of the...others...I've seen him with. Come to think of it, I haven't seen that one chick here in a while now...fine with me. Life is good. WC1

National Signs did not call me back. To say I'm disappointed at this time would be an understatement. I'm going back to work for Randolph Monday morning, and I've lost 3 days of work/pay by waiting to get this job. All things happen for a reason. If we don't understand it now, it will be made clear to us later. I have faith in the proper outworking of these things. I believe there is something else that is more important to the Man Upstairs that I'm supposed to be doing. I'll keep searching for it.
Cheers, WC1

WC, you and I carry the same feelings as far as everything happens for a reason.

Sorry, Cat. Are you sure they aren't just dragging their feet? Sometimes it takes us forever to get folks in the door here... bp
