Thanks Billy Mac - I emailed them at US 19 Dragway and Sunshine Dragstrip and I'm still having ZERO luck trying to track down any more info on this car. Everyone I've emailed has either ignored my messages or said they have never seen it before. Geez - even that Automotive Engineering place's phone # that 'Cat tracked down for me is "no longer in service" The more we investigate the deeper the mystery becomes. Car came from Forest Hills Florida, chassis was certified in NHRA division 3 and they can't(or won't) tell me who the chassis cert number belonged to. Can you believe this story? Division 3 tech guy sez all chassis cert paperwork went to head office in Glendora and they say they can't find their records?
Guy we bought the car from has been no help at all with engine specs - either he doesn't know or doesn't want us to know what's in it for camshaft, valve lash, timing, how many runs on it, etc. Guess we'll have to pull it apart to see for ourselves....

That's just really strange...WCB suggested Suncoast Race Cars...I just checked out their site and it looks like a good lead. Give that a try...WC1

The hunt is over - Apparently the previous owner has finally decided to furnish us with the info we were looking for. He could have told us earlier and saved me a pile of phone calls and God knows how many emails so another team member will be talking to him probably tomorrow. After all the time I wasted on my search for info I'm obviously not the best person to contact him.

Good news, despite all the hassle you went through. Bottom line: VROOM!

Glad to hear things are turning around.

Hope you can get all you need from him.

Now the guy won't answer Len's phone calls so we have officially given up on trying to extract any info from him. We've decided to take the engine apart over the winter for a full inspection, new gaskets and maybe a new set of bearings and rings if necessary. I've spent waaaay too much time on this "wild goose chase" already.

Yep, it's over. Just do it. What the heck. Ya wanna know what I think, I don't think the guy really knows what's in that engine, he's just been blowing smoke up Len's...exhaust pipe. If you guys do a full undo, you'll probably find a lot more than he'd have told you before you sew it back up. That's my take on it...good luck, Don. WC1

Finally picked up that Competition Engineering rear frame section for the Firebird. Now we need ladder bars and a leaf spring floater kit and we can start bolting/welding everything together. Getting really excited about this project now that all my parts are starting to appear. The local "know-it-alls" tell me my slicks are too big(14.5X33), gears are too steep(5:38, converter stall is too high(5000) and the cam has too much duration(272 @ .050) so that leads me to believe I've got it right LOL. Geez - even my old Stocker had 5:13s and 9X29.5 slicks and that was a 250HP 327 with a Rochester 4-jet so I think a 1970 LT-1 can handle big slicks and 5:38s.

Once I get it moved into Dad's garage and start working on it I'll be posting more pics. For a look at what we started with go back to page 12 in this thread. It's NOT going to be ready for this season but if all the planets and stars line up and we can nab a few sponsors we're going to try to make an appearance at the last local event in September.
